Fortnite Down: Why servers are offline and when Chapter 5 Season 4 will launch
Fortnite servers are going offline Thursday night into Friday morning as another season of the game is ending.
Here's what to know about the upcoming Fortnite downtime and the new Marvel-themed Chapter 5 Season 4.
Why is the Fortnite server offline?
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 will end at 11 p.m. ET Aug. 15, and its servers will go offline for maintenance to upgrade to v31.00, according to X (formerly Twitter) account Fortnite Status .
Based on the downtime for previous season releases, the website Polygon estimates Fortnite will be offline about four hours. If the timing is accurate, the Fortnite servers will be back up around 3 a.m. ET.
Of course, server maintenance can take longer than expected, as we found out when extended downtime delayed Chapter 5 Season 2 in March.

When is the new Fortnite season? What's new in Chapter 5 Season 4 'Absolute Doom'
The trailer for the next season made its debut at the Fortnite D23 event on Aug. 10.
It highlighted many new Marvel-themed weapons, according to Polygon, including Black Panther's claws and Captain America's shield. And Wolverine is apparently a banana, named Peelverine, according to Forbes .
Also, MCU fans will be able to find clues about upcoming movies and TV shows in the new Fortnite season, according to Forbes, which calls it "a more interactive and cross-media collaboration than most."
