An Iconic Hiking Boot from the ’90s Is Back with Multiple Upgrades

Timberland may be synonymous with its famous yellow boot but that isn't the only icon you'll find in the company's back catalog. The New England-based brand used to make a rugged, Gore-Tex-lined moc toe that became popular in New York City near the turn of the century.
Discontinued sometime thereafter, the chunky silhouette has since faded into relative obscurity, with only rare sightings overseas — mainly by way of Japan .

Now, more than 20 years since its initial debut, the Mid Lace GTX Boot is back on US soil. Timberland teamed up with none other than the '90s-loving Aimé Leon Dore (ALD) to revive the classic silhouette with a few material upgrades.

ALD x Timberland Heritage Mid Lace GTX Boot
The first of those can be seen with ALD's choice of leathers: crocodile- and stingray-embossed leathers for the body and vamp. Peccary-embossed nubuck makes up the mid-height ankle collar, while shaggy suede accents give both the brown and black colorways some contrast.

There are a few subtle adjustments, too, including a cobranded leather footbed and an ALD dubrae (the metal fixture attached to the laces). However, the most practical of the bunch has to be the addition of speed hooks, which weren't featured on the original Timberland boot from decades ago.

Pricing and availability
The ALD x Timberland Heritage Mid Lace GTX Boot is available from October 18 for $195, although sizes are already selling out. On the product page, Aimé Leon Dore recommends sizing down.
