Pair of local sixth-graders compete in national STEM competition
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – R4 Creating is an organization that provides STEM programs for youth in New Mexico. A team of two sixth-grade girls is heading to Baltimore to compete in the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation STEM Challenge Finals.

The team from New Mexico will compete for a $5,000 first place prize. The STEM challenge uses prompts from real-world problems and gives the teams an chance to apply STEM skills and knowledge to create a solution.
The pair will present their STEM project, 'The Laughing Lantern' which is a wheelchair accessible amusement park ride. "Not only have they designed a unique and innovative solution, but they've also developed themselves to be able to present to an adult audience remotely," R4 Creating Founding Executive Director Dr. Shelly Gruenig said.
