‘Pet ride’ option officially available on Lyft
( KRON ) — Rideshare apps have solved the commuter's dilemma of getting from point A to B without owning a car, but what if carless commuters wanted to get to point B with their furry best friend keeping them company?
Lyft introduced a "highly requested feature from both drivers and features" on Monday with "Pet rides."

"At Lyft, we believe that everyone belongs, and that includes our four-legged family members," Audrey Liu, EVP of Rider Experience at Lyft, said Tuesday. "With Pet rides, we're making it easier than ever for pet owners to get where they need to go with their pets."
Riders will be matched with drivers "who are comfortable having pets in their car." In addition to tax, Lyft said riders will need to pay a $4 fee to find a pet-friendly Lyft.
Riders are allowed one cat or dog along for the ride. "The pet must either be in a carrier, on their owner's lap on a blanket, or at their feet," Lyft said.

"Whether you're heading to the vet, the park, or just out for a day of errands, you can now bring your beloved pet with you, knowing that they'll be paired with a driver who is ready to get them where they're going!" Lyft said.
Pet rides were nationally available starting Monday in honor of National Dog Day. To further celebrate National Dog Day, Lyft partnered with local animal shelters and rescue organizations to encourage pet adoption to riders by giving "special" Lyft discounts for every adoption made.
"As a foster-based rescue without a physical shelter, this initiative will help our fosters immensely with transporting animals to our events, where they can meet potential adopters," said Grace Coleman, Operations Volunteer at Waggytail Rescue. "We are also dedicated to rehabilitating animals in need, and Pet rides will help us get our fosters to vital vet appointments."
