WCIA introduces WeatherCall to provide viewers access to severe weather alerts

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – WCIA is proud to partner with WeatherCall to offer a new way for viewers to get severe weather information.

WeatherCall is a company dedicated to providing viewers with access to life-saving weather alerts through phone calls, text messages and emails for a small annual fee.

For just $12 a year, you can now have the WCIA 3 Weather Team call, text and email you when life-threatening weather is moving towards your home. The notifications will be sent to you immediately once an alert has been issued.

"This is an incredible opportunity for our viewers to stay connected when severe weather information. When severe weather threatens, seconds matter. That's what we wanted to partner with WeatherCall to offer a tried, true and tested service that could alert our viewers," said Chief Meteorologist Kevin Lighty.

The service allows you to select your home location and get emails and text messages for tornado watches and severe thunderstorm, tornado and flash flood warnings. You also will receive a phone call for severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado warnings. The notifications are also customizable based on criteria, meaning you'll only get alerts through WeatherCall for what you select.

In addition, you can take WeatherCall with you. With the availability of a "Find Me" button, whether you're on vacation, camping or visiting family far away, WeatherCall lets you temporarily change your location, allowing you the flexibility and security to be notified wherever you go.

"Perhaps the feature we're most excited for is that viewers who worry about getting alerts when they are asleep don't have to worry anymore. This service allows us to call you if you are in a tornado warning polygon, meaning you can sleep more soundly at night and be more at peace," said Meteorologist Jacob Dickey.
