I've Reviewed Almost Every Amazon Device. These Are the Prime Day Deals I'd Actually Buy
Prime Day is in full swing, and there are plenty of great deals across manufacturers and product categories, but Amazon's own devices almost always get some of the biggest price cuts.
Nearly every Echo smart speaker , Echo Show smart display , Kindle ereader , Fire tablet , Fire TV media streamer , and Ember TV is on sale for Prime Day, with some products available for half off. I've personally reviewed many of Amazon's devices, and my colleagues have handled the rest. Amazon devices often earn high marks and our esteemed Editors' Choice award for their features, performance, and value. I scoured the site to find the steepest discounts on the best Amazon devices, and I'm sharing them here.
Put Alexa in Any Room With 35% Off the Echo Dot Max
The Amazon Echo Dot Max is a great little smart speaker. It's really the latest version of the Echo, the middle child of the Echo smart speaker family, sitting between the smaller Echo Dot and the bigger Echo Studio . I don't know why Amazon renamed it the Echo Dot Max, but either way, it fills the same Goldilocks niche as the regular Echo, offering hands-free Alexa, support for multiple smart home hub standards, connectivity options, and surprisingly big sound for its size. At its usual $99.99 price, it earned 4.5 stars and an Editors' Choice as the best smart speaker, and this week it's more than a third off at $64.99.
Save 31% on the Echo Show 8, One of the Best Smart Displays
Amazon's Echo Show line of smart displays spans a wide range of sizes, but, as with its Echo speakers, the best is the midrange model. The Echo Show 8 has an 8.7-inch screen that's big enough to comfortably watch videos, read recipes, or tap smart home controls on without taking up too much space on a counter or table. It sounds very good, too, and features a camera for video calls or keeping an eye on your home when you're out. It's normally $179.99, but at 31% off for Prime Day, you can grab it now for just $124.99.
Looking for a New TV? Score 27% to 39% Off the Amazon Ember Mini-LED
Amazon's TVs are also on sale for Prime Day, including the company's best, the Ember Mini-LED (formerly called the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED). It's a great-looking TV with a bright picture, hands-free Alexa, Apple AirPlay, and 120Hz VRR with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, earning it four stars in my review. The 55-inch version is a steal at $499.99 for Prime Day, 39% off its usual $819.99 price. If you want to upgrade to a big screen, the 75-inch version is also a great deal at $1,099.99, 27% off the $1,499.99 list price. As for 65 inches, though, its Prime Day discount is a mere 19%, bringing it to $879.99, down from $1,089.99.
Put a Library in Your Pocket With 28% Off the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition
The Kindle Paperwhite is a fantastic ereader, but this Prime Day, I'd recommend going a bit fancier with the Paperwhite Signature Edition. It has everything the standard Paperwhite has, but double the storage (32GB) and wireless charging. The Signature Edition is normally $199.99, but its Prime Day price is $144.99, 28% off and cheaper than the usual price of the standard Paperwhite.
Encourage Your Children to Read With 22% Off the Kindle Paperwhite Kids
Want to get your children into reading, or already have a little bookworm? The Kindle Paperwhite Kids can help them foster a love of the written word. It's a standard Paperwhite, but with a bundled protective case plus a six-month membership to Amazon Kids+ (normally $5.99 per month or $48 per year with Prime). Kids+ provides books, games, and apps across many Amazon devices, plus all the parental controls you need to keep an eye on what media they consume. The Paperwhite Kids is $139.99 for Prime Day, 22% off its usual price of $179.99. Like the Paperwhite, it earned 4.5 stars and an Editors' Choice award, as our top ereader for kids.
Grab a Fire HD 10 Kids Tablet for 42% Off
If you want to give your young children some controlled connectivity without paying Apple prices, the Fire HD 10 Kids is the tablet to get. It isn't super-powerful, but considering it's for kids ages three to seven, it doesn't have to be. Its 10.1-inch screen is great for picture books, educational games, and other content, and you'll get a ton of content with the included yearlong Amazon Kids+ membership. The tablet also comes with a large, colorful, toddler-resistant case to ensure it withstands drops, spills, and general roughhousing. The Fire HD 10 Kids is usually $189.99, which is a bit pricey for a three-year-old tablet, but it's 42% off for Prime Day, and the Kids+ membership alone justifies almost half its price at $109.99.
