Marriott International and LG Electronics have formed a long-term collaboration focused on hotel guest room technology.

The expanded partnership will involve the deployment of a cloud-based platform for in-room entertainment and connected devices.

Marriott plans to deploy the jointly developed system across participating hotels in its portfolio.

The platform is intended to update the in-room television experience while supporting broader device management and connected guest services.

Under the collaboration, Marriott is defining requirements around the guest experience, hotel operations, and enterprise integration, while LG is co-developing the platform, as well as offering device-management tools and technical support.

The technology will enable participating Marriott properties to authenticate and manage LG smart hotel televisions and set-top boxes through a central system.

It is also expected to reduce reliance on conventional on-premises video-distribution infrastructure.

The rollout will also give hotel teams the ability to check device health, performance, and status across individual rooms, entire properties, brands, groups of hotels, as well as Marriott's wider portfolio.

This should help teams identify technical issues faster and update applications and content more efficiently.

The entertainment system will support linear TV, streaming services, and free ad-supported streaming television channels. It will include more than 40 OTT applications and 250 channels.

The television service will also offer personalised advertising through LG Channels and client-side ad insertion.

Marriott and LG will initially pilot the technology at 40 locations across the US and Canada, covering Marriott brands.

They also intend to consider extending connected digital services and centralised management tools into public and shared areas of hotel properties.

Marriott International executive vice-president and chief revenue and technology officer Drew Pinto said: "Our collaboration with LG reflects Marriott's commitment to building technology that elevates the guest experience across our portfolio.

"By combining LG's connected-device capabilities with Marriott's hospitality expertise and enterprise platform, we are creating a more seamless, personalised guest room experience while helping hotel teams operate more efficiently."

"Marriott and LG to pilot cloud-based in-room entertainment platform" was originally created and published by Hotel Management Network , a GlobalData owned brand.
