When will Apple release iPhone 17? Your next upgrade may be weeks away

The iPhone 17 is reportedly rumored to be announced in September, meaning Californians may be just weeks away from their next upgrade .

Last year, Apple introduced its iPhone 16 range on Sept. 9, with the new phones ready for pre-order later that week. In September of 2023, Apple unveiled its iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

In addition to when the latest iPhone will be released, rumors are swirling about a price hike for it. Earlier this year, USA TODAY reported that the cost of an iPhone could increase due to President Donald Trump's tariffs.

The release of the next iPhone series also means that the more than 50 Apple stores across the state will likely be especially busy. It comes as Apple users look toward to the release of iOS 26 , which features a new design for the home screen and new ways to use Apple Intelligence.

"For nearly a decade, Apple has announced its new iPhone lineup in early September," CNET said , acknowledging that there was an exception in 2020 when the release date had been pushed back later in the year.

9to5 Mac , which said it launched in 2007 amid the announcement of the iPhone, expects Apple to announce the iPhone 17 series the week of Sept. 8. A senior contributor with Forbes said he expects Apple to hold its keynote on Sept. 9, where the iPhone 17 range will be unveiled. Mashable reported the week of Sept. 8, and "specifically" Sept. 9, as the timeline to watch for the launch of the iPhone 17.

When will iOS 26 come out?

IOS 26 will be available this fall, Apple said. Here are some of the changes you can expect when it's time to update, according to  Apple :

• A new design for the home screen and lock screen, plus new customization options to app icons and widgets, thanks to Apple's Liquid Glass, a new "material" that "behaves like glass in the real world," said  Apple . The new software design is "bringing greater focus to content, and delivering a new level of vitality across controls, navigation, app icons, widgets and more."

• With Apple Intelligence comes live translation, which translates text and audio and is integrated into Messages, FaceTime, and Phone apps.

• Apple Intelligence can also automatically identify and summarize order tracking details from emails, allowing users to see their order details and progress notifications in one place.

• Messages from unknown senders will appear in a dedicated folder, allowing people to screen messages in a new format.

• A new, compact view of incoming calls comes to CarPlay, allowing people to see who is calling without missing information like directions.

• Apple Music will show the translated lyrics of a song that's sung in another language.
