The iPhone 17 lineup is headlined by the addition of the  iPhone 17 Air,  which takes the place of the iPhone Plus model that served as the company's second-tier phone. Apple touts it as its slimmest phone offering ever.

The iPhone 17 Air is  5.6 millimeters thin , about a third thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, and 165 grams in weight. "Despite how thin the phone is, it feels remarkably durable," Marc Saltzman  wrote in an initial impressions column for USA TODAY.

The " Awe Dropping " event saw  incremental upgrades across the iPhone range , with Apple stating that all phones would have "all-day battery life."

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max see a redesigned camera bar that will span the width of the phone, and both premium models will have an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip for faster connectivity.

"The cameras are the real story here, especially on the Pro models," Saltzman wrote.

The 48 megapixel camera in the premium models houses a telephoto lens with 1x, 2x, 4x and 8× optical zoom and 8K recording capabilities. All iPhone 17s come with a square sensor for the front-facing camera that the company says allows for multiple photo orientations when used for selfies.
