WhatsApp users can rejoice, as they can now use the social messaging service on their iPads courtesy of a dedicated application.

Users will be able to enjoy the same features commonly available on the iPhone or desktop version of WhatsApp, including making video and audio calls with up to 32 people, sharing their screen, and using both front and rear cameras.

WhatsApp said in a blog post that iPad users will be able to use the app in tandem with the device’s unique iPadOS features, including “Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over to view multiple apps at once, so you can send messages while browsing the web.”

Fans of the messaging service have long been asking for the addition of a dedicated WhatsApp iPad app. Prior to the launch of the native app, The Verge noted that iPad users would have to “either run the web version in their iPad’s browser or use the desktop apps for Mac or PC.”

WhatsApp is one of the world’s largest social messaging services, launched in 2009. As of March 2025, it has amassed a user base of nearly 3 billion monthly active users and is accessible in 180 countries worldwide.

Meta (then Facebook) acquired WhatsApp in 2019 for nearly $14 billion. The tech company has also hinted that a dedicated Instagram iPad app could soon be made available.
