"Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida – forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive."

Why 'Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look' on Netflix Is a Big Deal

Netflix doesn't usually premiere showcases of video games they don't own, but Grand Theft Auto VI isn't just a video game – it's a cultural event. As of press time, Rockstar has released only two official trailers, along with some short clips and dozens of official images. Fans have been thirsty for a new trailer and extended gameplay footage, so it's likely they'll be tuning into Netflix first to see what the special has to offer.

The GTA VI special also helps Netflix evolve into more than just a movie and TV show subscription service. " Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right," said Brandon Riegg, Netflix's VP of Nonfiction Series, to Netflix's Tudum news site . "The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto 6 is unprecedented, and we're honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first. It's a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience."
