Your Netflix subscription is about to get more expensive

Streaming services were supposed to free us from the high costs of cable subscriptions, but it didn't turn out that way, Now, Netflix is raising prices yet again in the United States, with the standard subscription now reaching $20 per month.

First spotted by Android Authority , Netflix has increased the price for all its subscriptions in the United States. The 'Standard with ads' plan is now $9 per month, an increase of $1 from the previous cost. The 'Standard' plan without ads is jumping from $18/month to $20/month, and the 'Premium' plan is going from $25/month to $27/month.

The cost for adding additional members to your plan, which was Netflix's alternative to password sharing, is also going up in price. If you have a plan with ads, it's now $8/month to add a member instead of $7/month. For plans without ads, that's jumping from $9/month to $10/month.

Netflix said in a statement to Variety , "We continue offering a range of prices and plans to meet a variety of needs, and as we deliver more value to our members we are updating our prices to enable us to reinvest in quality entertainment and improve their experience by updating our prices."

The last price hike for subscribers in the United States was in January 2025, so it's been a little over a year. That's when the 'Standard with ads' plan increased from $7 to $8/month, 'Standard' jumped from $15.49 to $80/month, and 'Premium' went from $23 to $25/month.

There are still a few other ways to get a Netflix subscription in a bundle discount, like with certain T-Mobile plans or Xfinity's StreamStore . Those deals are more rare than bundles with Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, Peacock, and other competing services. Netflix hasn't had to fight for market share in years, so your options for finding a deal are limited.

If you're only using Netflix occasionally, this might be a good opportunity to cancel or pause your subscription . After a long break, you can sign back up for a while to watch everything you missed. You could also cycle your subscriptions, like paying for HBO Max for a few months, then Netflix, then Peacock, and so on.
