Netflix has cracked down on password sharing at various times in recent years, but the "household" still remains an integral part of the platform's experience.

Under its longstanding format, any profiles under the same Netflix household had to be registered to one single email address. However, a major change is reportedly coming, and it's good news for Netflix customers.

What is a Netflix "household"?

According to the official Netflix website, a Netflix household is "a collection of devices connected to the internet at the main place where you watch Netflix." It is designed for family members to be able to have separate profiles to manage viewing preferences.

"You may not share your Netflix account outside of your household," Netflix says . "People who are not in your household will need to create their own account to watch Netflix, or can be added as an extra member."

Users will love Netflix's upcoming policy change

According to Luke Bouma of Cord Cutters News , Netflix has begun notifying subscribers that household profiles will no longer be consolidated under one email.

When the update is implemented, every user in a specific household will be able to link their profile to their own email address, rather than have all of the important account management based out of one central email.

"Once that connection is made, the person using that profile will be able to sign in independently, receiving their own sign-in verification codes directly rather than having to go through the primary account holder," Bouma writes. "This small but practical change eliminates what has often been an awkward dependency — particularly in households where the primary account holder is not always readily available to share login information."

The change "represents one of the more significant quality-of-life improvements" Netflix has made in terms of multi-user experience and household setup.

What does this mean for password sharing?

Of course, Netflix still doesn't want anyone sharing their log-in info with people outside of their household. Of course, Netflix users are still going to do that, which means the platform will probably look to combat password sharing at some point.

In the meantime, this alteration to how Netflix manages multi-profile accounts is something that can benefit all subscribers.
