Your Next Hotel Stay Might Have Google TV

Have you ever wished the TV in your hotel room was better, had a more user-friendly interface, or was similar to what you have at home? If so, you might be in luck. Your next hotel stay might have a TV worth using thanks to DirecTV, which has partnered with Google TV to overhaul its platform in hotels starting in 2026.

While hotel chains all use various vendors or platforms for the TV experience, which is usually locked down pretty tight, it lets you view a laggy TV guide, amenities, dining menus, and a few other things. First spotted by 9to5Google , DirecTV just announced an all-new "Advanced Entertainment Platform" powered by Google TV for use in many hotels and hospitality sectors throughout the United States.

Coming in 2026, DirecTV's new Google TV interface will deliver an advanced experience similar to what we're all familiar with at home. Sure, it'll probably look completely different from the Google TV software on the TV in your living room, but this move will allow customers to enjoy all of their favorite streaming apps.

Imagine being able to easily watch live TV from DirecTV, along with Apple TV, Disney+, HBO Max, Netflix, YouTube TV, and more right from your hotel TV without all the usual pain points. That's the thought here, and it sounds pretty great.

Even if your hotel has a smart TV, users often forget to log out of streaming apps , deal with regional restrictions, and have other issues. The new DirecTV Advanced Entertainment Platform for hotels and hospitality looks to solve these problems.

According to DirecTV, "guests can seamlessly access their personal streaming accounts through QR code authentication, with automated daily clearing of guest preferences and personal account information." That way, you can easily watch all your favorite shows and pick up where you left off on your latest Netflix binge session . Thankfully, it'll automatically sign you out during the hotel checkout process.

The announcement mentions how this process will ensure data security, so you're not just signing in to a random TV over a relatively insecure Wi-Fi connection, which is why we like to use a travel router on vacations . And hotel guests will even be able to take it a step further and manually clear accounts and login information before leaving the room, even though the system will do it for them upon checkout.

As you can see from the example image above, provided by DirecTV, hotel chains can customize the experience on top of Google TV. That said, it'll deliver an interface we're all more familiar with, which is a step in the right direction.

Basically, when you travel in 2026, there's a good chance you'll actually enjoy using your hotel TV, be able to watch all your favorite shows, and then log out of each service automatically.
