Sony Debuts Ad-Supported Live TV on PS5 with Over 100 Channels

Seven years after Sony closed its paid PlayStation Vue service, the company is debuting free Live TV on PS5 today, with over 100 live channels.

The ad-supported Live TV will include content from Sony Pictures Television and others, such as NBC and Fox News; sports; movies from MovieSphere and FilmRise Free Movies; TV shows such as The Walking Dead; and anime from Crunchyroll.

To access the service, navigate to the Mediatab on the home page and click on the Live TV on PS5icon. Sony confirmed to CNET that the service will be coming to Bravia TVs later in the year.

The service will also include "gaming and esports content, creator-led entertainment, documentaries, podcasts and other specialty programming, including eCLUTCH (exclusive) and more." 

The company says it will add new content over time and expand into other regions, starting with Canada.

Sony has been late in introducing a FAST service , and follows in the footsteps of successful offerings such as Roku Channel , Fox's Tubi and Sling Freestream . Sony's previous live TV service was the subscription-based PlayStation Vue , a competitor to YouTube TV and Sling, and it shut down in 2019.
