Delta’s New Wi-Fi Milestone Has Travelers Saying It’s ‘Amazing’
Delta just crossed a major milestone in its push to make in-flight connectivity feel a little more like home: more than 1,000 Delta aircraft now offer fast, free Delta Sync Wi-Fi, bringing the service to roughly 75% of its fleet.
For travelers, that means a far better chance of stepping onto a plane where streaming, texting, and browsing won't cost a penny or sputter out mid-flight.
Delta says the milestone also marks a shift in how people use Wi-Fi in the air. "When you're at home, you're watching TV and then checking stuff on your phone," Joseph Eddy, Delta's director of cabins and inflight entertainment and connectivity, told the Points Guy . "We are rapidly approaching a consumer approach for multiple device consumption at the same time."
A Rollout Almost Completed
As of this week, free Wi-Fi for SkyMiles members is now available on most of Delta's domestic and long-haul international flights, according to The Points Guy , including nearly all of its largest aircraft. The airline has already finished outfitting its Boeing 737, 757 and 767 jets, plus its Airbus A220s, A320-family aircraft and A330s. Installations on the A350 fleet are wrapping up now.
What's left? Delta's smallest planes. The airline is about one-third of the way through upgrading its Delta Connection regional jets and is still awaiting certification for the Boeing 717. Delta expects its entire global fleet to be fully equipped sometime in 2026.
Most flights already offer gate-to-gate connectivity, though passengers on long transpacific routes may still encounter dead zones until additional Viasat satellites launch. Europe-, Africa-, South America– and Hawaii-bound flights, however, should now see uninterrupted coverage.
What Travelers Are Saying
The upgrade is already getting plenty of praise from passengers online . "It's amazing," one traveler wrote on Delta's announcement post, while another added, "Love being able to get work done in the air." Several commenters also applauded the airline for expanding access so quickly, noting that the free Wi-Fi has made long domestic flights "so much more enjoyable."

The milestone comes as Delta continues rolling out new tech features tied to its Delta Sync platform, including a Kids Map—an interactive, game-like inflight map designed for younger flyers—and Destination Stories, a new seatback feature arriving next year that serves up local recommendations, offers and travel inspiration tailored to your destination.
Not everyone is convinced the rollout is perfect yet. One commenter noted that some aircraft still aren't equipped, adding, "It'll be great when it's truly on every flight." But overall, the reaction has largely been enthusiastic, especially among frequent travelers who rely on in-flight connectivity for work, entertainment or simply keeping kids occupied at 30,000 feet.

Delta says the Wi-Fi expansion will continue through 2026, with more aircraft—including widebodies—set to receive the upgraded service. That means even more travelers will be able to stay connected gate-to-gate, whether they're sending a last email, starting a movie or video-chatting a loved one before landing.
If free, fast Wi-Fi has moved from "nice-to-have" to "travel essential" for you, Delta's latest milestone might be one of its most passenger-friendly upgrades yet.
