MAN Engines Debuts New Inline-Six Engine

MAN Engines is taking its inline-six platform into a higher performance range with the new i6X, a 12.4-liter diesel producing up to 1,000 hp. Developed for yachts and sport-fishing boats, the engine builds on the established MAN D2676 platform and shares many components with the existing i6.

A new single-stage turbocharging concept is central to the i6X's development. MAN says the system delivers increased power without the added complexity and weight associated with multi-stage charging, while also improving response at lower engine speeds. Maximum torque is 2,398 lb.-ft. at 1,500 rpm, with an emphasis on rapid torque delivery for acceleration and maneuvering.

The i6X maintains nearly the same dimensions and customer interfaces as the existing i6, potentially simplifying integration into existing engine-room layouts. An updated intercooling system and demand-based oil cooling are designed to maintain operating temperatures under sustained loads.

Alongside the 1,000-hp version, MAN will offer a 900-hp variant. The new engines meet IMO Tier II, EPA Tier III and European Recreational Craft Directive emissions requirements.

MAN will display the i6X at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Sept. 8-13, 2026. Standard production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2028.
