My latest NordVPN review found good points and bad points. Its speeds, features and server network easily rank with the best VPNs , but its redesigned apps won't work for everyone. Probably the worst part, though, is how expensive the long-term plans get the first time you have to renew. If you'd rather avoid the price hike, here's how to cancel NordVPN.
How to turn off NordVPN auto-renewal
The straightforward way to cancel NordVPN is to stop your account from automatically renewing. This lets you use your subscription until it runs out normally, giving you time to find a new VPN to replace Nord. Follow the steps below.
-
Open any web browser and go to my.nordaccount.com.
-
Click the blue button that reads Log in to Nord Account.
-
Enter your account email address (if it's not there already) and your password.
-
Click Billing in the column on the left side.
-
Under the NordVPN heading, find the words Auto-renewal. Click the Cancel button right beside it.
-
On the pop-up that appears, click Cancel auto-renewal to stop your account from renewing.
If you're within the 30-day refund period, you can now ask for your money back. Otherwise, you can either continue to delete your account, or simply shop for a new VPN while you wait for it to expire.
How to cancel if you subscribed through an app store
Those of you who first downloaded NordVPN on a phone or tablet may remember making your account and signing up from within the mobile app itself. If you did that, your subscription is managed through the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, and you'll have to cancel it the same way.
If you're on an iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app (tap the gray gear) and open your profile by tapping your name and email at the top. Tap Subscriptions, find NordVPN and cancel it. If it's been less than 30 days since you made the purchase, ask the Apple support team for a refund.
On an Android phone or tablet, open the Google Play store. Tap your profile icon in the top-right corner (if it's not there, make sure you're signed in), then tap Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Find the entry for NordVPN and cancel it, then contact Google Play support for a refund if it's been 30 days or less.
How to delete your Nord account
Once you've found your new VPN, you might want to go beyond cancelling NordVPN and scrub your data from its systems completely. You can delete your NordVPN account outright, but this method will also delete your overall Nord account, so no more NordLocker or NordPass. Here's what to do if your mind's made up.
-
Go to my.nordaccount.com in a web browser.
-
Click the blue button to log in.
-
Enter your credentials to reach your account overview page.
-
Click your email address at the top-right. A dropdown menu should appear. Click the Account settings option.
-
Scroll to the bottom and click Delete account.
-
In another tab, open the inbox associated with your Nord account. Wait for an email from Nord and note the code it contains.
-
Back on your original tab, enter the code.
-
Follow the remaining prompts and confirm that you want to delete your account.
How to get a refund from NordVPN
NordVPN's money-back guarantee lasts for 30 days on all plans. Once you've canceled auto-renewal within 30 days of signing up, you can get a refund by talking to tech support.
Go to support.nordvpn.com to get started. Scroll down and click any article in the Quick help section, then scroll down again and find the bubble titled Live chat. Click Chat with support to start a live chat, then request a refund on your account. Provide whatever information they ask for (usually your account email), get confirmation, then wait for your refund to process in about 10 business days.
NordVPN alternatives
Once you're finished with NordVPN, there are plenty of other VPNs on the market you might like better. My favorite is Proton VPN , but you'll also get great performance out of ExpressVPN and Surfshark . Try them all and see which one feels the best for you.
