The Hoka Skyward X has so much cushion, it's basically illegal. That's not hyperbole.
The shoe's monstrous 48mm stack height surpasses the 40mm limit set by World Athletics, effectively barring elites from using it in official competition.
No matter: the Skyward X arrived last year as Hoka's most supple daily trainer to date , providing a plush platform for recreational runners racking up daily miles.
Now the design will get a post-run update in the form of the Skyward Laceless , a new variant that turns the trainer is an active-recovery slip-on that looks even more cushy than the original.

While the Skyward X came with a midsole plate jammed in-between layers of PEBA and EVA foams, the laceless version ditches carbon fiber altogether.
That said, the dual-foam composition remains, with a top layer of PEBA for optimal comfort and bounce.

Taken alone, copious amount of foam make the Skyward Laceless one of the most cushioned shoes in the world.
However, the addition of a sock-like upper only adds to its everyday opulence, especially with spandex giving it form-fitting stretch.

Availability and pricing
Just listed on Hoka's official website , the Skyward Laceless will be available for purchase in the coming weeks.
It costs $175 and comes in three colors at launch — "Grassland" beige, "Stardust" silver and black.
