Google Pixel Watch 5 launches with new advanced health tracking

Google just announced the Pixel Watch 5 with a new collection of advanced health tracking features, improved GPS and deeper Gemini integration. The latest generation also comes with faster performance and new tools designed to spot changes in a wearer's health and wellness over time.
The Google Pixel Watch 5 is available to preorder at Best Buy ahead of its Aug. 20 release. The smartwatch starts at $399.99 for the 41mm Wi-Fi model, while the larger 45mm version starts at $429.99. LTE models are also available for both sizes.
"Last year, Pixel Watch 4 set a new standard for our smartwatches with its iconic design, long lasting ultra-fast charging battery, and on-wrist Gemini capabilities. Today, Pixel Watch 5 builds upon this foundation to change what a smartwatch can do, delivering our most proactive help and health experience yet. It's designed for Gemini Intelligence, advanced fitness features with Google Health, and breakthrough new Health Guardian features," Google said in its announcement on Wednesday.

What's new with the Google Pixel Watch 5?
Health is one of the biggest focuses of the Pixel Watch 5 . Google's new Health Guardian features monitor several health and wellness trends and can provide monthly summaries for blood pressure trends, sleep breathing quality and insulin resistance trends.
"Taking steps toward improving your health is also about seeing the full picture, catching quiet, invisible trends before they become emergencies," Google said in its announcement.
The Pixel Watch 5 can also detect potential breathing emergencies using its sensors and on-device AI. If the watch detects a severe, persistent drop in oxygen saturation and the wearer is unresponsive, it can contact emergency services and share the wearer's location. The feature will initially be available in select European countries.
Google notes that its new blood pressure and insulin resistance trend features are intended for general wellness and are not designed to diagnose medical conditions.
Fitness tracking is getting an upgrade, too. Google says the Pixel Watch 5 delivers twice the GPS route accuracy of the Pixel Watch 4 in difficult environments. A new strength training experience is also coming with step-by-step workout guidance and the ability to log weights and reps directly from the watch.
Internally, the Pixel Watch 5 uses a new Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated processor with 50% more RAM and a 12% CPU boost. Google says the upgrades make the new watch 20% faster than the previous generation.
Other upgrades include a 3,000-nit Actua 360 Display, new watch faces and up to 30 hours of battery life for the 41mm model or 40 hours for the 45mm model. The lineup includes new Fog, Canyon and Olive bands, along with a new Satin Pyrite case.
Gemini also plays a larger role on the Pixel Watch 5 with proactive assistance and an upgraded Raise to Talk feature. Wearers can raise their wrist to ask Gemini a question, start a workout, set a timer or handle other tasks without ever reaching for their phone.

Google also teamed up with Stephen Curry
Google is also launching a special edition Pixel Watch 5 in collaboration with NBA star Stephen Curry. The 45mm Stephen Curry Special Edition features a polished silver case and an exclusive blue Active Sport Band, along with a Curry-inspired watch face and exclusive animations.
The special edition smart watch will retail for $579 and launches Sept. 3, giving basketball fans another version of Google's newest smartwatch to look forward to after the standard Pixel Watch 5 arrives Aug. 20.
