Your Original Google Pixel Watch is Getting Its Last Update

Joe Fedewa / How-To Geek

Are you the proud owner of an original Google Pixel Watch? If so, we have some good and bad news. After rolling out the October 2025 update to the Pixel Watch 2 and Watch 3 earlier this month, Google is finally embracing its original model. Unfortunately, this is likely the last update your watch will get.

In a support blog post , Google confirmed that the original Pixel Watch 1 is getting the October 2025 update, listed as "BW1A.251005.003.W1," but it's mainly bug fixes and security patches. This is not Wear OS 6, as this older watch is still on Wear OS 5, and your watch won't receive the latest smartwatch software—at least officially.

Google's first smartwatch arrived in 2025, and the initial announcement and follow-ups confirmed that the device would receive three years of software updates. Considering it's now October 2025, the time is up. For those unaware, just like smartphones , watches only get promised software support and updates for a specific amount of time. Once that timeframe expires, the manufacturer moves on to newer models.

This is extremely common in the Android world, even if manufacturers are slowly working to support devices for a longer period of time. For example, Samsung and Google have both started offering seven years of software support on select models. And while that's great, older phones and watches aren't as lucky.

If you're still using Google's original Pixel Watch from 2022, it's probably time to upgrade. At this point, your watch isn't running the latest Wear OS 6, it won't ever officially receive that update from Google, and it's no longer being supported by maintenance and security software upgrades.

The October 2025 software update rolling out this week for the original Pixel Watch 1 is probably the last update you'll ever get. Now would be a good time to consider switching to the fancy new Pixel Watch 4 , a Galaxy Watch, or something else.
