4 private jet CEOs share their best travel habits — here's what anyone can borrow

We asked private jet CEOs for their best travel tips, habits, and products.
We asked private jet CEOs for their best travel tips, habits, and products.

It's all great once you arrive at a destination — until then, travel is about anticipating delays, packing for disruption , and making every minute of the trip count.

The CEOs of the world's best private jet companies have the advantage of observing the mechanics of air travel under the hood. They oversee aircraft, crews, weather changes, airport restrictions, client demands, and last-minute itinerary changes.

With more airport delays and fewer air traffic controllers, all travelers face the same restrictions; and lately, universal travel tips have become especially universal.

Travel habits to borrow from the world's top private jet CEOs

Moisturize and dress comfortably

Greg Raiff, CEO of Elevate Aviation Group , has three top pieces of advice for all travelers:

  1. Use an intense moisturizer."I use my Dermalogica intense moisturizer in the morning and when I board the plane. I keep a tube on my jet for just this reason," Raiff said.

  2. Dress for comfort."Dress comfortably!! For me that means a cashmere hoodie and joggers. I feel so strongly about this one, we gave matching sets to all of our clients last year."

  3. Maximize the time.Raiff suggests that this time of uninterrupted focus is the time to tackle the big projects and think big. "The idea behind the Elevate Jet app was conceived on my flight to Geneva."

Dermalogica Intense Moisture Balance

Cabin air is recycled from air in high elevations, which means it has less water, and this leaves skin feeling tight and depleted. Elevate CEO Greg Raiff applies this rich moisturizer both before flying and while on board. The nourishing formula is substantial enough for long-haul travel and easy to keep in a carry-on for an in-flight moisture boost.

Design your ideal flight experience

Michael Silvestro, CEO of Flexjet , emphasizes creating an in-flight experience that helps you relax and feel comfortable.

"You should design your ideal in-flight experience. It can be shaped by the time of day, the purpose of the journey, and the nature of the flight itself, whether it's a quick domestic trip or a transatlantic departure at sunset," Silvestro says. "For example, after a long day of work, my favorite meal to enjoy on the flight home is pizza."

These well-designed travel companions offer a range of options for creating a more comfortable, personalized flight experience.

Bring charging cords, wrinkle-free clothes, and call your mom

Alex Wilcox, JSX CEO, swears by these three habits when traveling:

  1. Stay wrinkle-free."I keep suits and shirts in plastic wrap from cleaners, roll them using hanger(s) as center of the roll, unroll and hang when I arrive," Wilcox says. "I'd rather spend 30 seconds rolling a suit than 30 minutes looking for an iron."

  2. Unpack immediately.Wilcox says he swears by unpacking immediately upon arrival, "otherwise you're still on the trip three days later."

  3. Bring the right tech.Wilcox says that one USB cord with multi-adapters is critical when traveling. "Technology shouldn't be the reason your day falls apart. One cable solves a surprising number of problems."

  4. Call your mom."Flights get delayed. Life doesn't."

Hydrate properly and build your cabin kit

Loryn Farnden, founder of Aaliya Jets in Dubai, has two rituals she swears by.

  1. Build a cabin kit."Build a real cabin kit and never fly without it," Farneden says. "Cabin air is incredibly dry. I love Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream, or La Roche-Posay Nutritic Intense Riche for something gentler, a silk eye mask, and a thick hand cream. A small ritual makes an enormous difference to how you feel when you land."

  2. Hydrate harder than you need to."Hydrate harder than feels necessary, and go easy on the wine. By the time you feel thirsty at altitude, you're already behind, so a big glass of water and an electrolyte before you board does more than anything you can do once you're up there."
