AAA Central Penn warns drivers to plan ahead for Labor Day Weekend travel

As summer winds down, AAA Central Penn is warning drivers to plan ahead for Labor Day Weekend travel.

AAA says many people will hit the road Thursday after work or on Friday, when holiday traffic will mix in with normal commuter traffic. Officials say drivers heading out Thursday or Friday should leave as early as possible and avoid the middle of the afternoon if they can.

AAA says even leaving an hour or two earlier can make a significant difference.

"I think the best tip for travelers this holiday weekend is just to pack your patience, to make sure you're having a good time and avoid any headaches, and if you do come across anything unexpected, take a deep breath and try to enjoy the folks that you're with," said Doni Lee Fox, with AAA Central Penn.

For those traveling home on Sunday, AAA expects minimal traffic impact; however, drivers going home on Labor Day Monday should avoid the afternoon hours, when return trips are expected to peak.
