Wellness cruises are booming. These 5 cruise lines make it surprisingly easy to relax at sea.

The best picks for wellness experiences that go way beyond the standard spa and gym.

Whether you're a morning meditator, an avid Pilates enthusiast or just love spending time in a steam room or sauna, sticking to a wellness routine on a cruise ship isn't only possible — it's easier than ever.

I've been cruising for more than three decades and have never seen such significant improvements and expansions in fitness and holistic wellness. Sure, gyms and thermal suites are nothing new, but the rush is on to incorporate trendy features like cold plunge pools, infrared saunas and holistic wellness experiences into more sailings.

Whether you're looking for healthy menus, morning yoga classes by the pool or the best salt scrub of your life, here are five cruise lines that make sticking to — or starting — a wellness routine incredibly simple. Plus, three retreat-style cruises led by experts that you can book for a deeper immersion.

The best cruise lines for wellness-seekers

Lines like Celebrity offer a wide range of spa services to help you relax and recharge.

Celebrity Cruises

Wellness seekers looking for a relaxed, upscale vibe, coupled with an abundance of evening entertainment, may find their perfect match in Celebrity .

All of the line's ships have extensive spa services, large fitness spaces and adults-only solariums, along with a Spa Café serving lighter fare during breakfast and lunch, including an extensive selection of smoothies.

Celebrity also has its AquaClass staterooms . These are mostly verandah staterooms (except for select Sky Suites on Edge Class ships), and they typically offer easy access to the spa and a wellness package that includes access to the ship's thermal suite, complimentary fitness classes (depending on voyage length), discounted rates on spa packages and in-room perks like yoga mats, upgraded linens and bath amenities.

Guests also have their own private restaurant for breakfast and dinner, with more plant-based options than the main menus. The private restaurant experience also offers a far quieter, less hectic dining option on a megaship.

A top wellness itinerary for me would be on Celebrity Eclipse , sailing from Amsterdam in the summer of 2027. Stops in Norway include Alesund, Bergen and Stavanger, with excursions that include kayaking or hiking, followed by leg and foot massages in the spa once you're back on board.

Viking Ocean

From heated bathroom floors in every stateroom to a complete outdoor promenade deck that's perfect for meditative walking or sea watching, wellness-seeking comes easy on Viking's adult-only ships.

Viking also wins top honors for cruise ships with thermal suites, where an oversize, warm therapy pool faces a toasty fireplace. There's an attached hot tub and comfy loungers, and you'll have your choice of a traditional sauna, steam room, snow room — and a cold-water bucket dump to see if you can handle vinterbadning.

The spa and gym spaces are extensive and offer a wide range of options, including movement classes and individual training sessions. The ship also features a main pool with a cover that closes in inclement weather, making it comfortable for swimming regardless of your cruise's destination. Viking cruises are also known for providing shore excursions with a considerable level of activity — think hiking and biking.

Viking's Iceland itineraries combine a wellness atmosphere both on board and on shore. Picture yourself floating in geothermal pools near Seyðisfjörður on a Vok Baths excursion that includes a follow-up dip in the adjacent cold lake.

Margaritaville at Sea

While wellness may not be the first thing to spring to mind when you think of Margaritaville , recovery time from all that partying is taken very seriously by the cruise line, with a large, well-thought-out spa and fitness center planned for its third ship, Beachcomber, scheduled to debut in early 2027.

Jimmy Buffett fans will appreciate the offerings at the St. Somewhere Spa and Salon, including the "Shaker of Salt" scrub. And the Fins Up fitness center will have plenty of equipment for most workouts, as well as a yoga studio with a distinctly island vibe.

Seven-night sailings from Miami call at ports like Key West, Grand Cayman, St. Maarten and San Juan . My pick for a wellness excursion would be yoga and sound healing at the beach in Puerto Rico.

 Virgin Voyages

Want to stick to your yoga routine? Onboard studios — with great views — make that a cinch.

(Virgin)

Imagine an adult-only line that understands you plan to party hard during the holidays and will need to reclaim your zen come January. Virgin's monthlong " Well-being Season " Caribbean sailings offer just that, with curated wellness experiences in addition to the line's usual spa and fitness lineup.

Thermal suites on Virgin ships are dreamy, with a dry sauna, steam room, a Himalayan salt room and a mud room. There are hydrotherapy pools, plus hot and cold plunge tubs — relax on heated stone platforms and meditate on a bed of quartz. All thermal suite facilities, including the changing rooms, are co-ed; swimwear is required, and access is via a three-hour paid pass.

A top wellness itinerary choice would be the Southern Caribbean on Valiant Lady from San Juan, and my favorite stop would be St. Lucia, where you can soak in a warm, bubbly volcanic mud bath on an excursion to Hot Sulphur Springs.

MSC

As MSC continues to grow its presence in U.S. waters, including its first summer season of Alaska cruises , it's also quietly improving its wellness offerings. While guests staying in the line's ship-within-a-ship area, the Yacht Club, have complimentary access to thermal suites, any stateroom booked with the Aurea Experience also gains the same benefit. All other guests can pay for a day pass.

MSC ships have fitness centers, movement classes and a wide range of spa services. More recent additions, now being introduced across the fleet this year, include services such as IV therapy and AI-powered diagnostics.

The line's newest ship, World America, cruises in the Caribbean year-round from Miami. I'd choose an itinerary that includes MSC's private island experience, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, and onshore wellness at The Spa Ocean Cay, where you can indulge in beachside massages and other treatments.

3 great wellness cruises you can book right now

Crystal Serenity: Round-trip from Lisbon, Oct. 11-17, 2026

This is an ideal wellness cruise for those who want a healthy retreat on a midsize ship that makes multiple port calls. Guest speakers on the voyage include longevity expert Dr. Mossimo Spattini and yoga and sound healing specialist Eva Estlander, alongside Crystal's Wellness Ambassador Dalila Roglieri and dedicated sanctum guide, fitness and dance specialist Vanessa Schummelfeder.

The ship provides a luxury, all-inclusive experience with butler service in every room, carrying 740 passengers. The spa and fitness area includes sauna and steam room facilities, as well as a wide range of services. There are also golf driving nets and a pickleball court. The itinerary includes two stops in Morocco and one in Spain's Canary Islands, with reduced solo-cruise fares in select staterooms.

Windstar Cruises Star Pride: Boston to San Juan, Oct. 20-28, 2026

Eight nights cruising on the 312-passenger Star Pride with two overnight stops in Bermuda sounds delightful enough. But add in yoga and inspiration from life coach and wellness speaker Debbie Dixon, and this becomes an extraordinary wellness cruise.

The stops in Bermuda are sandwiched between pairs of sea days, leaving plenty of time for a wellness reset. There's a fitness center, motion studio, spa and thermal suite outfitted with a dry sauna, steam room and a multi-sensory shower with preset temperature and mood-lighting settings. Daily yoga, meditation and transformational talks hosted by Dixon are all included in the fare.

Scenic Eclipse II: Bridgetown, Barbados to Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, April 14-23, 2027

On this cruise , you'll share the ship with a mere 228 guests, with a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1. There are no ports of call — only the bliss of endless sea and sky to enjoy during this peaceful retreat with expert wellness lectures, guided yoga, Pilates, meditation and sound therapy, as well as workshops on everything from nutrition to holistic health.

The ship has a well-equipped gym and spa, including infrared and bio saunas, a salt lounge and cold plunge pools. Scenic is an all-inclusive line that eliminates most add-on charges, but spa treatments (massages, scrubs, facials) incur an additional cost.
