Disney Cruise Line fast-tracks fleet growth, 5 new ships by 2030

Disney Cruise Line's ambitious growth plan just got even more aggressive. The Walt Disney Company outlined an accelerated timeline for new ship launches in a graphic included with its fiscal third-quarter 2026 earnings materials , released on Aug. 5.

Moving up two ship launches, the updated timeline puts Disney on track to have a fleet of 13 ships sailing across the globe by late 2030 instead of 2031.

The fiscal third quarter was the first full quarter with Disney's newest ships, the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure, both fully in service. Together, they pushed the line's stateroom capacity up roughly 50% compared to the same quarter last year, and Disney says it remains encouraged by current occupancy and forward bookings. Cruise growth was one of the drivers behind a 10% revenue increase in Disney's Experiences segment for the quarter.

That momentum appears to be why Disney is speeding up what comes next.

What changed on Disney's new ship launch schedule

Disney's fleet has grown from five ships to eight over the past two years, adding the Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny, and Disney Adventure since 2024. The line's 2024 roadmap called for five more ships — bringing the total to 13 by 2031. The updated timeline keeps most of that plan intact but pulls the last two vessels forward for earlier debuts:

• Ship 12 moves from a planned 2030 launch into late 2029.

• Ship 13 moves from 2031 to late 2030.

That means 2029 will now see three Disney cruise ship debuts — a first for Disney Cruise Line — and the full 13-ship fleet will be sailing a year sooner than originally announced.

Here's what's coming next in Disney Cruise Line's fleet expansion plan:

Late 2027 — the Disney Believe

The fourth Wish-class ship, joining the Disney Wish (2022), Disney Treasure (2024), and Disney Destiny (2025), the Disney Believe remains on schedule for a late-2027 debut. This roughly 4,000-passenger vessel is the next new ship cruisers will be able to book soon.

Disney plans to formally reveal the ship during a livestream on Oct. 7, which it teased in a July 28 social media post : "On October 7, tune in to the livestream reveal of the Disney Believe — a ship inspired by promise, possibility, and what lies beyond the horizon."

Prior to the reveal, a few details are expected to be shared at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, happening Aug. 14 – 16.

2029 — three new Disney cruise ships in one year

The most noteworthy change for cruisers is that three vessels are now slated to debut in 2029:

• The fifth Wish-class ship, operated by Oriental Land Company (owner of Tokyo Disney Resort). It will sail short two- to four-night cruises out of Tokyo, as reported by fan blog Disney Cruise Line Blog . First announced in 2024, this is Disney Cruise Line's first ship built for a non-Disney operator.

• Ship 11, the first vessel in an entirely new mid-sized class of ships — sized between the line's classic Magic-class and the larger Dream-class vessels and carrying about 3,000 passengers.

• Ship 12, newly moved up a year from its original 2030 target — a sister ship in that same new, mid-sized ship class.

Late 2030 — Ship 13

The final ship in the current expansion plan, also part of the new mid-sized class, will now arrive a year ahead of the original 2031 target.

Disney hasn't yet revealed the name for the Oriental Land Company ship or the new ship class.

What Disney Cruise Line's accelerated expansion means for families booking Disney cruises

For families planning ahead, this timeline shift means more Disney cruise vacation options to choose from sooner, and potentially more departure ports and more competitive pricing as capacity grows.

The new mid-sized class of ships also suggests that Disney is diversifying its fleet, rather than solely focusing on new megaships like the Destiny and Adventure. This could open up more unique itineraries featuring ports the larger vessels can't access.

Ahead of the Disney Believe reveal, families who want to book a Disney cruise that sets sail this fall or winter from Florida or San Diego can take advantage of a limited-time promotion .
