Margaritaville at Sea Adds First Homeport Outside of Florida

Margaritaville at Sea is packing up its blender and heading to Texas. The cruise line built around Jimmy Buffett's island escapism lifestyle is expanding again with a new homeport deal with the Port of Galveston.

The Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Aug. 25 to accept an operating agreement with Margaritaville at Sea, according to a Port of Galveston press release .

Margaritaville at Sea will become the seventh cruise line to call Galveston home when it begins sailing from the port in October 2027. The deal covers weekly sailings out of Cruise Terminal 28 with an initial one-year term and options to renew for two additional five-year terms.

Margaritaville at Sea joining the Galveston lineup means Gulf Coast cruisers will soon have a new family- and budget-friendly cruise option alongside the big mainstream lines that already sail from the port — Carnival, Royal Caribbean, MSC, Norwegian, and Disney.

Margaritaville at Sea's expansion to Texas will follow the launch of its third cruise ship, Beachcomber, in January 2027 from PortMiami.Margaritaville at Sea

Margaritaville at Sea Brings New Drive-to Cruise Option to Texas

For families across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and beyond, Margaritaville's expansion to Galveston is a big deal. The Texas Gulf Coast port has become one of the busiest homeports in the country precisely because it lets so many cruisers skip the flight and drive to the ship. The fourth busiest cruise port in the U.S., Galveston has 446 sailings and a record 3.9 million passenger movements forecast for 2026.

"It's the next logical location. After Florida's ports, it's the biggest U.S. port by cruise volume," TravelHost's Come Cruise With Me Editor in Chief Dan Kline said about the move. "It makes a lot more sense for the brand than New York or the West Coast."

Margaritaville at Sea CEO Christopher Ivy framed it as part of the brand's broader growth strategy, saying the deal brings the line's laid-back, island-inspired style to more travelers across Texas and the Central U.S. and calling Galveston an "important and growing cruise gateway."

Galveston Wharves Port Director and CEO Rodger Rees echoed the enthusiasm, tying the new partnership to the market's massive Jimmy Buffett fan base.

"Like many of the 46 million people in our drive market, I grew up with 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' and still enjoy listening to Jimmy Buffett's unique style of music," Rees said.

  • Sailings will depart on Fridays

  • Itineraries will include destinations in the Caribbean and Central America — both new ports of call for the brand and passenger favorites

Based on Margaritaville at Sea's existing fleet — Paradise, Islander, and Beachcomber (launching in January 2027 from Miami) — and cruise lines' typical sailing patterns from Galveston to Mexico and the Western Caribbean, cruisers can expect weeklong sailings to destinations like Cozumel and Progreso in Mexico; Belize; and Roatan, Honduras, plus some ports the line hasn't sailed to yet.

Having recently sailed on Margaritaville at Sea Islander to Cozumel, I can say the brand delivers exactly what it promises: carefree vibes, island-inspired dining, and a no-fuss, family-friendly getaway that appeals to multigenerational travelers .
