Norwegian Expands Free at Sea Dining, Opens Starbucks Package to Teens
As a mom who sails with a crew that now includes a teen and a tween, I've learned that the family cruise math changes fast once your kids stop ordering from the kids' menu and start requesting dinner reservations and Starbucks.
Norwegian Cruise Line just made both of those things a little easier and more affordable with two cruise package updates that landed right before its Labor Day sale kicks off.
More Guests Now Get Free at Sea Specialty Dining Meals
Norwegian's Free at Sea package is one of the line's biggest draws, bundling more than $2,000 worth of perks — including an unlimited open bar package , specialty dining, WiFi, and shore excursion credits — into one add-on for the first two guests in a stateroom. That's nice for a couple, but it's never quite covered families with kids who no longer want to order from the kids' menu or multigenerational groups sailing in one or two staterooms.
That changes now. As of Aug. 26, 2026, guests three through eight on a reservation will also receive the Free at Sea specialty dining benefit. The change opens up the line's wide range of onboard specialty restaurants to the whole group — everything from upscale French dining at Le Bistro and steak and seafood at the popular Cagney's Steakhouse to Mexican, Mediterranean, sushi, and hibachi.
For a family with kids like mine who want specialty dining, that means the whole family can enjoy more meals together during a cruise without worrying about additional onboard costs.

Norwegian Opens Its Starbucks Package to Teens and Makes It More Flexible
Norwegian also updated its Unlimited Starbucks Package in July — another change that's a good one for families with teens. The package, which runs about $20 per day (including 20% gratuity), can now be purchased for guests 13 and older. Previously the package was only available to guests 18 and older.
It's also no longer an all-or-nothing buy for the stateroom — one guest can opt in without requiring everyone else in the cabin to purchase it.
That second part matters as much as the age drop. That "everyone in the cabin has to buy the package" rule is a key reason why many families skip drink packages altogether, even when one or two people in the group would have gotten real use out of them.
Treating a teen to their own Starbucks package on a vacation while a parent sticks to the included coffee is the kind of flexibility that actually reflects how some families want to cruise.
Second Guests Sail Free With Norwegian's Labor Day Sale
These dining and beverage updates arrive alongside Norwegian's Labor Day sale, which begins Aug. 28. Available on select sailings, the limited-time promotion lets the second guest on the reservation sail free and offers up to $750 off balcony staterooms and above.
The offer is available on a variety of sailings, including voyages to Alaska, Europe, and the Caribbean and Bahamas. It's stackable with Free at Sea, meaning dining, beverage, WiFi, and excursion perks apply on top of the fare savings.

A cruise line representative told TravelHost's Come Cruise With Me that eligible voyages will change throughout the sale, so it's worth checking NCL.com or booking with a travel advisor sooner rather than later if a specific itinerary is on your list.
Many of the featured sailings visit Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian's private island in The Bahamas, which is opening its new Great Tides Waterpark on Sept. 4, 2026. My family is sailing there in September to check out the new attraction's 19 waterslides, industry-first cliff jumps, and the double-speed Wandering River .
