Delta phases out one of its longest flights from the US Northeast to a tropical paradise

Delta Air Lines is pulling the plug on its Boston-to- Honolulu nonstop route, once the longest domestic flight in the U.S., just weeks after announcing plans to bring it back for the winter.

The 5,095-mile service between Boston Logan International Airport and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu will make its final flight on January 4, 2027, about two months earlier than originally planned, a Delta spokesperson confirmed to The Independent .

"Delta routinely evaluates and adjusts our network to best meet customer demand. As a result, Delta will end service between Boston (BOS) and Honolulu (HNL) effective January 4, 2027. We apologize for any inconvenience and will contact impacted customers directly with alternate travel options," an airline spokesperson said.

Delta's daily Boston-to-Honolulu service will operate as scheduled from December 19, 2026, through January 3, 2027, the spokesperson added.

Passengers will fly on an Airbus A330-300 during the route's shortened 17-day run, with the final Honolulu-to-Boston flight arriving January 4, 2027, at 7:37 a.m., according to the outlet.

The nonstop flight takes about 11 hours and 40 minutes from Boston to Honolulu, while the return trip takes about 9 hours and 40 minutes because of favorable west-to-east jet streams.

Delta launched the route in November 2024, making it the longest nonstop domestic flight in the country. But the airline has repeatedly changed the service, including suspending the route in February 2026 before announcing its return for this winter.

Last year, both Delta and Hawaiian Airlines canceled their nonstop Boston-to-Hawaii routes.

Once the Boston route disappears, Delta's New York-to-Honolulu service will become the airline's longest domestic flight, The Street reports. The route covers about 4,983 miles and takes nearly 11 hours westbound, making it only slightly shorter than the Boston flight.

Despite dropping its Boston-Honolulu service, Delta still plans its largest-ever Hawaii schedule this winter, including new flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Maui. The airline will continue nonstop Honolulu service from nearly all its hubs, with Boston and New York's LaGuardia as the only exceptions.
