The British hotels beloved by the A-list

Even the most eagle-eyed A-list wedding chasers were surprised to learn that Hollywood power couple Tom Holland and Zendaya have just celebrated their nuptials with a fleet of famous pals at Beaverbrook , a grand country-house hotel in the Surrey Hills.

It has served as an excellent reminder that you don't have to go abroad to have a glamorous hotel wedding, nor for a decadent weekend away. So which British hotels do the rich and famous like to go to kick back, relax and sometimes even get married?

Beaverbrook, Surrey

This supremely stylish hotel is located just a 40-minute drive from Richmond , where Tendaya (that's what I'm calling them, not the length of their bash) live. The maximalist Georgian pile was once the home of billionaire media baron and politician Lord Beaverbrook, and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Aside from 400 landscaped acres in which to roam there are four restaurants including an outstanding Japanese, two chic bars and bedrooms spread between the main house (where they are named after previous inhabitants such as Elizabeth Taylor and Winston Churchill), the Garden House, the Coach House (also home to an amazing spa) and a self-contained 21-suite "village".

Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire

The rich and famous have been buzzing like bees to honey around this rural playground for media luvvies since it opened in summer 2015. The Beckhams live practically next door and it has hosted many a celebrity gathering, including the weddings of Emma Bunton and Jesse Bongiovi.

Soho House's first resort is set within 100 acres – a slice of hyper-curated rustic luxury and if the whole idea of that doesn't annoy you too much, it's a fun place to escape to. There's lots to do, from swimming in the indoor-outdoor pool and playing padel to whizzing around on the complimentary Foffa bikes or just hanging out in your immaculate timber cabin or one of the restaurants and bars, housed in various outbuildings.

Estelle Manor, Oxfordshire

In 2023, Soho Farmhouse got something of a rival in nearby Estelle Manor, an offshoot of Mayfair private member's club Maison Estelle. This elegant neo-Jacobean hotel, once called Eynsham Hall, is the brainchild of hospitality entrepreneur Sharan Pasricha, behind the Hoxton hotel group and Gleneagles in Scotland. It is, of course, a magnet for well-connected glamourpusses – Eve Jobs, youngest daughter of the late Apple co-founder Steve, recently married professional show jumper Harry Charles there.

Thyme, Gloucestershire

Kate Moss married Jamie Hince here in 2011, with guests including Naomi Campbell , Jade Jagger, Brian Ferry and John Galliano. It's been a celebrity magnet ever since. Back then this classic Cotswold-stone house in the pretty village of Southrop was only available on an exclusive-use basis; now it's open to everyone (who can afford it).

The gardens are gorgeous, there's a fabulous outdoor pool and bedrooms are shared between an old farmhouse, a former rectory and a handful of stylish cottages. It's family run, which gives the whole thing an even more inviting feel. There is nothing better than a glass of English sparkling wine in Fifi's Lounge, which has just been refurbished and is named after the family's springer spaniel.

The Pig at Combe, Devon

Everyone loves a Pig – not least regular guests such as Stanley Tucci, Alexa Chung and Hugh Bonneville. Each is so different, one usually has a favourite. Author, broadcaster and journalist Elizabeth Day's is the ivy-clad, Elizabethan Pig at Combe in Devon, where she had the perfect, intimate 10-guest micro wedding during the pandemic.

It's set among rolling hills a 15-minute drive from the sea and has an informal, vintage-chic, dog-friendly vibe with roll-top baths and four-poster beds, blankets to wrap up on cool evenings and a down-to-earth but discreet vibe.

Coworth Park, Berkshire

Right next to Windsor Great Park and the only British hotel with its own professional polo fields , you could probably guess that Coworth Park, with its helipad and top-notch spa, is popular with the royals and their chums. Prince Harry stayed there the night before his wedding as did many of the guests, including Serena Williams and Priyanka Chopra. 

It's a country-house hotel for those with no intention of getting in the slightest bit muddy, although wedding ceremonies in the pretty wildflower meadow are a popular choice. Jack Whitehall and his new wife Roxy Horner did something a little different, choosing to stay at the hotel the night after their wedding.

Heckfield Place, Hampshire

This relaxed Georgian manor-house hotel with a biodynamic working farm and wonderful spa makes for a pretty perfect weekend retreat. Benedict Cumberbatch has said it's one of his favourite hotels; Liv Tyler and the Delevingne sisters stayed there while attending Princess Eugenie's wedding in nearby Windsor and Ant McPartlin married Anne-Marie Corbett there in 2021. The hotel has several social spaces including the new residents-only Workman's Bar, a contemporary interpretation of a traditional 1950s pub open at weekends.

Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa, Cumbria

This Victorian beauty has the most spectacular location in Borrowdale overlooking Derwent Water and the surrounding fells. Its legion of fans includes Simon Pegg, Ronan Keating, Bill Bailey and Colin Firth. It is luxurious but a more affordable option than the other hotels here and has an award-winning pan-Asian restaurant, Mizu. 

A great place for a wedding, honeymoon or just a weekend away with friends, there are numerous drawing rooms, a conservatory, terrace, spa with outdoor infinity pool, garden and amazing hikes from the doorstep. There's also the Falls Cabana – an indoor-outdoor private party hut overlooking the falls, for up to 15 people.

The Fife Arms, Aberdeenshire

Like the best party house but available by the room. The wildly atmospheric Fife Arms in the village of Braemar offers a perfect blend of traditional Scotland and quirkily contemporary. 

It's the brainchild of international art dealers Hauser & Wirth, so was filled with their existing hipster clients from the moment it opened. As word spread, it soon became the coolest place to stay in Scotland, with celeb spots including Rita Ora and Will Ferrell and then Judi Dench and Sharleen Spiteri seen in 2023 singing Abba's Waterloo together at the Steinway piano in the lobby. The hotel has recently added a secret bedroom inspired by Coco Chanel .

Kinloch Lodge, Isle of Skye

Eddie Redmayne is a friend of the family behind this former 16th-century hunting lodge on the southern peninsula of the island and has been a frequent visitor over the years, including for the wedding of the daughter of the founders, who now runs the place, at which he sang during the signing of the registers. 

The hotel has long had a reputation as an unstuffy, discreet, private getaway with an inviting, home-from-home feel and exceptional, ultra-local seasonal food. You can go foraging, fishing, walking and stalking with the resident ghillie or stay inside, curled up with a book by the fire.
