We Chose the Top 100 New Hotels in the World—and This Maldives Resort With 9 Oceanfront Villas Is the Most Expensive

With only a handful of expansive residences, the smallest resort in the Indian Ocean is also the region's most exclusive stay.

  • While .Here provides unparalleled privacy and peace, guests also have access to the neighboring Finolhu resort—connected via a sandbank—where they'll find restaurants, bars, spa, and a fitness center.

  • The Muza Lab-designed interiors blend pops of bright Skittles-like colors with plenty of Maldivian-inspired motifs, such as seashells, rattan, and woven rope.

  • Each of the nine expansive residences is assigned a dedicated butler and features private pools and oceanfront vistas.

I have visited 48 resorts in the Maldives, but as I pulled up to .Here [pronounced "dot here"], I knew I’d arrived somewhere special. With stays starting at $13,000 a night, it is the most expensive hotel recently named to Travel + Leisure' s It List 2026 , celebrating the best new stays around the world.

This new Baa Atoll outpost opened in December 2025 as the smallest resort in the Indian Ocean. Just seven sprawling villas sit on a sliver of sand named Somewhere, with two more residences available on the buyout-only connecting island Nowhere. However, the villas are so large that they almost span the width of the island, with one half suspended over the clear blue water and the other half on the sand. Private pools run the entire length of the two-story residences, with glass-bottom sections throughout.

The architecture and boho-chic tropical design were dreamed up by the London-based Muza Lab (of The Alpina Gstaad, Palm House Hotel in Palm Beach , and One & Only Cape Town). My eye was drawn to one whimsical design detail after another: from the robin’s egg terrazzo bar to the massive rose pink Apaiser tub and the bathroom mirrors made of seashells.

“We looked to the maritime culture of the Maldives, the form of the dhoni, the textures of woven rope, the movement of boduberu dancers, and the beauty of the sunrise and sunset over the water,” explain Inge Moore and Nathan Hutchins, co-founders of Muza Lab. “Generous organic forms, natural timber and rattan, and sunken seating that recalls a reef cove create spaces that feel protective yet open to sea and sky.”

Designed with families and groups of friends in mind, each villa has a dedicated butler who provides personalized services. Activities like big-game fishing, snorkeling with manta rays in nearby Hanifaru Bay, cooking classes, sunrise yoga, and afternoon massages are just some of the options available to guests in between dips in the ocean and laps in the pool.

My butler tried to organize activities, but as soon as I stepped off the speedboat onto my private jetty, I knew they’d have to drag me away from my villa. So instead, I spent my days on the deck’s baby-blue swinging bed, reading and watching the turtles poke their heads up for air. In between, I’d message my butler my dining orders, which often included  mas huni  with a side of pickles for breakfast and penne arrabbiata with Maldivian lobster for dinner.

When, at the end of my stay, I zipped up my suitcase, ready to depart, I felt like I had done absolutely nothing, but my shoulders were unclenched and my brain clearer than it had been in months.

Below, my full review of .Here.

The Rooms

The Somewhere island is home to seven expansive two-story villas, available with three or four bedrooms. On Nowhere, there is a palatial Presidential Residence with five bedrooms and a Water Residence with three bedrooms.

Each bedroom has a different color scheme—canary yellow, flamingo pink, and palm-frond green—matched by coral-themed lampshades and marble benchtops in the bathrooms. Meanwhile, woven ropes frame the plush beds and conceal the TV against the wall.

Each villa's large primary bedroom sits on the overwater side, finished in soft timber furniture, Italian white terrazzo flooring, and both indoor and outdoor showers. The smaller bedrooms are awash in a palette of blues and greens, with fun design details, including Murphy beds and bathroom vanity counters made from recycled glass.

Food and Drink

The resort’s only restaurant and bar, Safar (the name means "journey"), sits overwater, with a striking roof design that mimics the sails of a local dhoni boat.

Safar’s menu highlights popular dishes from around the world. Guests can start with Galician-style octopus bites, then move on to French lobster thermidor, and end on a high note with the Belgian-inspired fudgy pecan chocolate bar. Cocktails here follow the same theme: the smoke on the hills of Loch Lomond is an ode to the Scottish Highlands with Scotch whisky, toasted coconut, miso, and coconut ginger beer.

Guests who prefer to dine in their villas can order from the in-room menu, featuring favorites like pasta made your way, steak cooked on a Josper grill, burgers, lobster rolls, and more.

The Spa

At .Here, everything happens in your villa, and that includes spa treatments. Therapists can set up a massage table in any of the three or four bedrooms. I opted for the smaller blue bedroom, where I could hear the waves crashing on the sand below, the perfect soundtrack to lull me into a relaxed stupor.

Treatment options included Tibetan massages, foot reflexology, detoxifying massages, citrus scrubs, Diamond Life Infusion facials, and even gentle treatments for kids.

At Nowehere, Fehi Wellness spa is only accessible to those staying on the island. However, all resort guests have access to the spa at the neighboring property, Finolhu .

Accessibility

This resort does not have any ADA-certified guest rooms.
