EVT Hotels & Resorts introduces mobile wallet room keys

EVT Hotels & Resorts has introduced digital room keys that can be stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.

In a statement, the company claimed that it is the "first multi-brand hotel group in Australia" to launch mobile wallet hotel keys.

The system allows guests to check in and receive their room key on their iPhone, Apple Watch or Android device, aiming to make hotel arrivals more convenient and streamlined.

EVT plans to extend mobile wallet keys across its QT, Rydges, Atura and LyLo brands over the next 12 months.

EVT Group technology and digital general manager Andrew Turner said: "Technology should make travel easier.

"Mobile wallet hotel keys remove another point of friction from the hotel experience and give guests a simple, seamless way to access their stay from arrival through to departure.

"Beyond convenience, moving to digital keys also reduces our reliance on plastic cards across the portfolio, supporting the group's broader waste reduction focus."

EVT positioned the digital key initiative as a way to simplify the guest journey and respond to growing demand for mobile-first travel experiences.

On arrival, guests can go straight to their room using a key stored on their phone or smartwatch, which is intended to reduce friction at check-in and remove the need for plastic key cards.

All access credentials are stored digitally in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, designed to expedite access and reduce the reliance on plastic cards and the risk of losing keys.

The launch follows other recent technology initiatives by EVT Hotels & Resorts.

The company said it was the first hotel group in Australia and New Zealand to integrate its app with ChatGPT, allowing travellers to discover hotels, review room choices, obtain property details and start their booking process via AI-driven conversations.
