Nantucket’s Greydon House Expands With New Lounge And Suites

Nantucket may be a tiny island, but the 48-square-mile island just got more space to stay overnight.

Greydon House , the 10-year-old boutique hotel in the center of town, just opened a new lounge and four individual guest suites, as part of an ongoing expansion.

Connected to the original 1950s era Broad Street property by a brick pathway, the expansion continues Greydon House's commitment to Nantucket's architectural legacy.

Designed by a Nantucket-based team – Emeritus designers and interiors by Natasha Willauer – the addition includes a ground flour lounge called The Green Room, now open to the public Thursday through Monday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Green Room's soft loungers and wraparound 14-seat bar offer an intimate setting for cocktails, light bites, and conversation in a seagreen colored space. Decor and finishings were sourced from local Nantucket antique shops, vintage markets across New England, and independent artisans who crafted on-site furnishings.

"The goal was never to replicate the original, but to create something that feels like a natural extension – more like a cousin than a twin," said Willauer. "We wanted each space to feel individually lived-in, while still connected to the larger story of Greydon House."

The four new guest suites are each unique, and designed to embrace Nantucket's coastal landscape with soft blues and greens layered with warm woods, brick hues, and brass accents. Some of the suites have Gothic windows overlooking North Water Street and select bathrooms feature dual shower systems, marble finishes, and custom walnut vanities.

Set in a former sea captain's home and originally designed by Roman and Williams, the 20-room Greydon House has become a luxury destination on Nantucket over the past decade. The property is consistently named one of the best hotels on Nantucket and is home to the Venetian restaurant Via Mare.

Next up in the expansion is a patio and garden slated for this fall.

Visiting Nantucket

Nantucket attracts nearly 2 million annual visitors. Despite reports that Nantucket has seen an explosion in tourism, data from the ferry operators and airlines (the only ways to reach the island, which is not connected to land by bridge or in any other way), indicates that tourism rates have remained steady in recent years . Census data shows that Nantucket has a year-round population of about 14,ooo residents, though around 80,000 people reside on the island in July and August.

Lodging is a consistent topic of conversation for locals and visitors. The island has fewer than 1,000 standard hotel rooms and strictly regulates short term rentals and secondary platforms, like Airbnb. Nantucket's Culture and Tourism office offers free referral services for overnight stays and lists vacancies, if available, daily.

Hotels rarely open on the island. Most recently, Blue Flag Capital reopened the renovated Beachside Hotel in 2025.
