MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress at Knott’s Berry Farm

BUENA PARK, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) - Knott's Berry Farm has relaunched one of its historic roller coasters, reimagined as "MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress".

The ride first opened at the Southern California theme park in 1978. According to Knott's Berry Farm, it was the world's first flywheel-launched roller coaster, thrilling millions of guests with its signature launch that reaches 55 miles per hour in four seconds. It also features a 76-foot, 360-degree vertical loop, followed by a 148-foot towering spike that drops you right back in reverse through the loop and the station and up another 112-foot tower.

"MonteZOOMa: The Forbidden Fortress" has new and improved features thanks to a multi-year revitalization project carefully balancing innovation and preservation. With the goals of enhancing ride performance, reliability, comfort, and storytelling, the roller coaster now features new trains, a new motorized launch system, an updated station experience, a refurbished track and supports, and new theming.

The ride is complemented by a new story centered around a mysterious forbidden temple and the lost treasure of Montezooma. The thematic experience builds upon the ride's rich history.
