MTS will offer bus service to and from San Diego International Airport every 15 minutes

San Diego International Airport travelers will soon enjoy more convenient transit options starting Sunday.

The Metropolitan Transit System is enhancing Route 992 , which connects downtown San Diego to the airport, by increasing bus frequency and adding late-night services just in time for the Labor Day weekend.

Buses on Route 992 will now run every 15 minutes from 4:30 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. This upgrade is particularly beneficial for those arriving on late flights or for airport workers who prefer a more affordable alternative to rideshare services like Uber and Lyft.

"It's really exciting, and one of the reasons that we've done this is because we've seen a lot of increase in ridership on Route 992," said MTS spokesperson Mark Olson. "It's gone from about four years ago from 250,000 passenger trips per year to 400,000 passenger trips annually."

The buses are equipped with luggage racks for passengers' suitcases. The fare for riding Route 992 will remain at $2.50 each way.

As public transit adapts to the growing demand from travelers, this enhanced service aims to provide a reliable and cost-effective option for getting to and from San Diego International Airport.
