Amex Offers 20,000 Bonus Points for Eligible Air France or KLM Flights

If you have European travel on the calendar late this summer or fall, it's time to log into your American Expressaccount. Amex has rolled out a targeted Amex Offer that lets select cardholders earn a massive 20,000 bonus Membership Rewards points after spending $1,000 or more on Air Franceor KLM flights.

Maximizing this 20,000-point bonus can unlock incredible real-world travel. For example, transferring those 20,000 Membership Rewards points to partner programs like Virgin Atlanticcan literally land you a free economy seat across the Atlantic. Paired with a required $1,000 flight purchase, it's effectively like getting your next trip to Europe paid for.

To qualify, you must add the promotion to your card and complete the $1,000 spend by August 30, 2026. Your travel date can occur after August 30, but the ticket transaction itself must clear by that deadline.

The terms dictate that flights must originate in the U.S., be billed in U.S. dollars, and be booked directly through AirFrance.us or KLM.com. Bookings made via third-party online travel agencies like Expedia or Google Flights will not trigger the bonus. Once earned, the bonus points will post to your account within 90 days after the August 30 promotion end date.

Maximizing the deal requires checking all of your American Express accounts first, as targeted offers can appear on some cards while skipping others. Once you enroll a specific card, the offer cannot be moved, so be sure to attach it to the card that earns the highest base rewards on airfare—such as cards earning five times points on direct airline bookings—to stack your standard earnings on top of the 20,000-point bonus.

While the offer cannot be redeemed on bookings paid entirely with Flying Blue miles, it does apply to cash transactions processed directly by the airline. That means if you're booking award seats for a family or flying in a premium cabin where taxes and carrier surcharges exceed $1,000, paying those fees directly with your enrolled card will trigger the full bonus.
