Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs Explains Why ‘We Must Take Action’ Towards Diversity During 2016 Oscars
Cheryl Boone Isaacs, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, took the stage at the 2016 Oscars to address the controversy over this year's lack of diversity among nominees, which was a dominant theme of the evening so far.

"It's not enough to just listen and agree," Isaacs said. "We must take action."
These remarks came in light of the Academy's recent decision to take "dramatic steps to alter the makeup" of their membership in order to reflect a broader diversity both in its makeup and its nominating choices, which Boone announced last month.
The Academy president ended on a lofty note, remarking that as "Dr. Martin Luther King once said, 'The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in moments of challenge and controversy.'"
