Alejandro Nieto Molina, Appointed to Lead Univision’s Radio Division Just Two Weeks Ago, Dies Suddenly
Alejandro Nieto Molina, the new svp and general manager of Univision's radio division who took over that position just two weeks ago, has died. According to published reports, Nieto Molina had a heart attack this morning (Feb.8) in Miami. He was 48 years old.
Nieto Molina hadjust started working for Univisionin the newly created post which gave him oversight of the company's 67 stations, the largest Spanish-language radio network in the country.

"Today we were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden loss of our colleague Alejandro Nieto Molina, senior vice president and general manager, Radio," read a statement by John Eck, Univision's Chief Local Media Officer and evp of Technology, Operations and Engineering. "He was new to the Univision family but many of us knew and respected him. His family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers."
Born and raised in Colombia, Nieto Molina was the member of a prominent radio dynasty. His father, Julio Nieto Bernal, was a journalist considered to be one of the country's radio "Legends." His brother, Andrés Nieto, is a well-known journalist and radio personality.
Nieto Molina started off as a host and DJ in Colombia before going into programming and launching successful pop radio formats (like La Mega and Radioactiva). He was later appointed programming director for Caracol Radio and in 2005 was transferred to Miami as vp of programming for Prisa Radio, the Spanish-language radio company with operations in 12 countries. Nieto Molina was most recently CEO of Prisa's Cadena SER in Spain.
Nieto Molina is survived by his wife, journalist Marcela Sarmiento, and daughters Florencia and Paola.
