Anchor Jim Donovan signs off from WKYC (Channel 3) tonight after nearly 40 years
WKYC (Channel 3) anchor Jim Donovan will sign off from the daily sports and news grind for the final time Monday (June 10).
Donovan, who has been on the airwaves since arriving in town in 1985, will be celebrated with an hour-long tribute at 7 p.m., his final regular broadcast.
Donovan won't be completely off Northeast Ohio's airwaves. He is the current radio voice of the Cleveland Browns having cemented a legacy of play-by-play calls since the team returned in 1999, worthy of mention with other legends who have held the spot. He will continue in that role.
Donovan has peppered his local resume with some high-profile national assignments including working on NBC Sports NFL games for 10 years, World Cup Soccer (1994) and two stints at the Olympics (1992 and 1996).
He went through multiple battles against leukemia that took him out of the booth, most recently for part of last year before making a return .
