Akron's 'Festive Fanfare' gets premiere, recording for bicentennial. Take a listen

"Festive Fanfare (For Akron's Bicentennial)" premiered to a packed house April 22 at E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron. The piece, created by Los Angeles composer Peter Boyer for Akron's Tuesday Musical Association, featured the brass and rhythm sections of the Cleveland Orchestra, led by trumpeter Michael Sachs.

"This is an incredibly vibrant community," Boyer said before conducting the new work in Akron. "It seemed to me that Akron is a community that really punches above its weight.

"I've already been asked about this piece by several conductors. I think the chances are pretty good that this piece is gonna have some legs," he said. "Happy bicentennial. Happy 200th. Here's our gift to you."

On April 23, the musicians recorded Akron's new fanfare at Severance Hall to memorialize the work. The recording will be released for free public access in the summer.
