I ate the new Selena Gomez Oreos and was stunned by how good they are
I need to issue an apology to Selena Gomez. I'm sorry I ever doubted that you could make a good Oreo .
The new Selena Gomez Oreos taste like all the best cinnamon things. They're giving Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They're singing horchata. They hit a flavor home run while using a giant churro as a bat.
Hello? Cookie police? I would like to report that Selena Gomez has personally murdered my mouth-brain with an Oreo.
Selena Gomez Oreos | Review
This is the second time Oreo has worked with a major celebrity for a limited edition flavor. Last time around, it was the Post Malone Oreo , which had some fun Twix-like vibes.
But the flavor that Gomez put out? It's a great idea with excellent execution.
On the box, it's described as "chocolate and cinnamon creme." But in reality, there is a bit more going on. There are three components here for the "horchata-inspired" cookie:
1) "Chocolate cinnamon"-flavored outer cookies
2) A layer of "chocolate cinnamon"-flavored creme
3) A layer of "sweetened condensed milk"-flavored creme with "cinnamon sugar inclusions."
That last part is Oreo's own phrasing. I don't know why they wrote it like that. It feels like something they were legally obligated to write.
What is a sugar "inclusion?" What are Oreo's cookie lawyers hiding? I'd dive deeper into this topic, but now I'm all sleepy from eating too many of these Oreos.
Darn, they got me. I fell into their cookie trap.
What does it taste like?
When you bite into this cookie, you're met with a pleasingly balanced cloud of cinnamon flavor. It's sweet, with a powerful pop of the spice. But none of it is overwhelming.
Unlike most other Oreos, there's a little bit of complexity. I think that's because the cinnamon is tied into all three components of the cookie.
The cinnamon flavor is live and electric. It makes you want to grab another one right away.
Unlike some other flavors, which can get overly sweet and fragrant in flaunting the specialty flavor, the cinnamon is built tactfully into this cookie's bedrock of chocolate.
Having "chocolate cinnamon" as the flavor for the outer cookie and the creme really stabilizes the taste, making the entire thing more cohesive.
You don't really get a lot of chocolate flavor in the cookie. It plays more of a supporting role. It's the bass in the background backing up the sick guitar solo that is the cinnamon.
Meanwhile, the layer of "condensed milk" cream adds just the right amount of sweetness to amplify the whole flavor experience.
So is it any good?
I really can't stress how much this cookie rules.
It's a fun flavor that isn't overly heavy or smelly (a recurring problem for many flashy Oreo flavors). I could eat a whole sleeve of these.
