There are few summer foods as classic and reliable as a hot dog . You can keep it simple and dress it with ketchup , yellow mustard and/or relish, or adorn your dog with fancier toppings, like grilled onions and pico de gallo or chili and cheese.

How someone takes their hot dog is a good way to learn more about who they are. But one common denominator of most hot dogs, regardless of topping, is that they're served on a bun. But we recently learned that Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones take a different approach when it comes to hot dogs, and it reflects the rock stars they are.

It's clear that the Rolling Stones love their hot dogs "on the rocks," which is definitely a departure from the standard handheld American version. But the Stones' love of hot dogs seems to run deep. Mick Jagger previously shared a photo of himself on Instagram hanging out at a hot dog stand in Vienna, Austria, looking thrilled to be there.

What Makes Rolling Stones' Hot Dog on the Rocks So Great?

Besides the fact that the Rolling Stones ate this dish up, hot dogs on the rocks is a family-style meal that can feed a crowd (according to the recipe card, it 'feeds five Stones'), so it's perfect for summer gatherings. This dish is piled on with a little bit of every comfort food—hot dogs, potatoes and baked beans—including a little something for everyone. The recipe is also hilariously straightforward in how proudly non-virtuous it is. "This is not—repeat, not—a recipe for calorie counters," the book said.

The Stones' recipe was excerpted by Open Culture , and it's pretty simple to follow. Make instant mashed potatoes or boil and mash fresh potatoes with milk and butter (or use your favorite mashed potato recipe). Cook the hot dogs (grill, boil, steam or microwave them) and warm up a can of baked beans.

To serve, scoop a pile of mashed potatoes onto each plate, surround it with the hot baked beans, and sprinkle everything with sliced chunks of hot dog for a meal that living musical legends approve of.

Is this a dish that will give everyone satisfaction? It depends on the crowd. But it's a new take on hot dogs you've likely never had before. That alone makes it worth trying out.
