The Big Star Quintet and Grammy-winner Don Was among new shows announced for GPAC

The music of Big Star and the Grateful Dead will be celebrated in the coming months at the Germantown Performing Arts Center .

On April 16, the venue confirmed that Memphis power-pop legends Big Star will be the subject of a concert featuring the band's last surviving member, drummer Jody Stephens . Stephens will lead the Big Star Quintet for a special show at GPAC on July 19.  

In addition to Stephens, the Big Star Quintet features an all-star cast of musicians including Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Jon Auer (The Posies), Pat Sansone (Wilco) and Chris Stamey (The dB's), playing songs from the band's iconic 1970s catalog, including "#1 Record," "Radio City" and "Big Star's Third."

GPAC also confirmed a Jan. 23 concert by Grammy-winning producer and musician Don Was. Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead's 1975 LP, "Blues for Allah," performing the album in its entirety as part of their first set and then performing its own original music as part of a second set.

Tickets for the Big Star Quintet show range from $35-$65. Tickets for Don Was and the Pan-Detroit Ensemble concert are $40-$65.

Tickets to both shows will be available via online sales only starting at 10 a.m. April 18 through the GPAC website . They will also be available for purchase by phone and in person starting April 21.
