What is Elvis Presley's greatest hit? These 16 songs advanced to Round 2 of our bracket

The first round of voting to determine Elvis Presle y's best song has come to a close, and the field of 32 has been pared down to 16 tunes.

With the annual  Elvis Week  festivities coming up, The Commercial Appeal has decided to turn to you, our readers, to determine the top track by the  King of Rock 'n' Roll .

Adopting a March Madness-style competition to determine Elvis' best track, we started with 32 songs facing off in randomly generated matchups. Round 1 saw some close battles and impassioned voting as fans lobbied for their favorite cuts by the King.

Here are the Round 1 results:

• "Blue Suede Shoes" beat out "Don't."

• "Suspicious Minds" edged "Love Me."

• "Heartbreak Hotel" triumphed over "(Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame."

• "A Little Less Conversation" topped "Mystery Train."

• "Return to Sender" just edged "That's All Right."

• "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" notched a win against "Little Sister."  

• "Don't Be Cruel" beat out "Too Much."

• "Love Me Tender" earned a victory over "Trying to Get to You."

• "In The Ghetto" held on to win against "All Shook Up."

•  "Burning Love" topped "One Night."  

• "Kentucky Rain" made a strong showing against "(Let Me Be Your) Teddy Bear."

• "Can't Help Falling In Love" easily handled "A Big Hunk o' Love."

• "Jailhouse Rock" ran away with the win against "An American Trilogy."

• "It's Now or Never" pipped "You're the Devil in Disguise."

• "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" cruised to a win over "Stuck on You."

• "Hound Dog" took on a tough challenge but prevailed against "Viva Las Vegas."

Round 2 will open up on Aug. 4 — matchups will be revealed then. You can vote up to once per hour.

Voting for each round will be open from 5 a.m. Monday until noon Thursday. The voting windows are:

• Aug. 4-7: The King's 16 voting

• Aug. 11-14: Elvis' Eight voting

• Aug. 18-21: Semifinals voting

• Aug. 25-28: Finals voting

• Aug. 29: Winning song announced.
