Ari Aster’s fourth film, Eddington is on the horizon.
The Western thriller and black comedy film follows Aster’s Beau Is Afraid (2023) starring Joaquin Phoenix, who has reteamed with the director on his latest project. Aster was also behind films like the Florence Pugh-starring Midsommar (2019) and Hereditary (2018) and C’est La Vie (2016).

When does Eddington come out?
The film first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival 2025 to a nearly seven-minute standing ovation .
Deadline’s Damon Wise praised director Ari Aster for being “willing to go there” in terms of satirizing modern America and “for depicting a slice of history that we have yet to see properly shown on film, even though it happened only five years ago.”
When does Eddington come to theaters?
The film will arrive in theaters July 18, 2025.

From the teaser trailer, it looks like the film will comment on the Covid-19 pandemic and protests as well as other movements that happened during lockdown.

Joaquin Phoenix plays the sheriff of Eddington. Pedro Pascal plays Mayor Ted Garcia. Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Michael Ward, Clifton Collins Jr. and Amélie Hoeferle will also star.

Darius Khondj is cinematographer on the title. The film is financed and produced by A24. Aster wrote, directed and is producing the film alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg Banner
