"That was a fu–ing waste of money, I want my ring back" - When Gilbert Arenas replaced his ex's $400K ring with a fake one originally appeared on Basketball Network .

Gilbert Arenas was always as bold off the court as he was with the ball in his hands. Whether he was pulling up from 30 feet with no conscience long before it was cool and bringing firearms to the Washington Wizards ' locker room just to make a point, Agent Zero always did things his way.

But no long-range jumper, tunnel fit or off-court incident tops the story of how Arenas went back to his ex just to pull off the most expensive ring swap in NBA relationship history.

That's right, Gil finessed a $400,000 engagement ring off Laura Govan and replaced it with a $10K replica without her even noticing, right in plain sight.

"What ended up happening is, we got into a fight, eight days later (from the proposal) and broke up. And when we broke up, I'm like, 'That was a fu–ing waste of money, I want my ring back,'" Arenas recalled in his past interview with VladTV.

"So I was like, 'How do I get my ring back?' Fu– it, I just got to get her back, but when she comes back I'mma have the fake one and I can switch it at any time," the retired point guard added.

Arenas planned it all to perfection

At the time, Arenas had just proposed to Govan, the woman he now shares four kids with, and thought everything was locked in. Then, eight days later, it all went south. They broke up, and Gil started thinking like a man who wasn't about to just eat a $400K L.

Instead of walking away, he started plotting. Got a replica ring made for just $10K, made sure it looked close enough and waited. He got back together with Laura not long after but didn't make the switch right away. Arenas just sat on it, knowing he could switch them whenever he wanted and played the long game.

Years later, after the relationship was over, custody battles had come and gone and the dust started to settle, Arenas decided it was time to have some fun. So he went on social media and casually posted the real ring, the actual $400K one he ultimately swapped, just to stir the pot a little bit.

That move got Govan suspicious. She had her ring appraised and found out it was barely worth $10K. That's when the whole thing unraveled and she realized Agent Zero had pulled the ultimate heist right under her nose.

Govan sued Arenas for theft and lost

Once the truth came out, Govan ended up suing Arenas, claiming he stole the ring, which was quite understandable from her side. However, Gil wasn't sweating it. He'd already flipped the switch, kept the real one and had receipts to back it all up. When the dust settled, the court sided with him. Oh, and that $400K rock? He used the money to cover up his lawyer fees.

"Sh-t you can keep taking me to court, I got about three more cases until I tap into my old money," Arenas concluded that story with a smirk.

In the end, he didn't just get his ring back, he also got the last laugh. And while it wasn't the most noble move in the book, it was 100% on-brand for a guy who's always operated on his own terms. Talk about petty...
