Jeff Bezos Goes Viral for Face-Planting Onto Ground as Blue Origin Returns
- Jeff Bezos had an embarrassing fall while trying to welcome the all-female Blue Origin crew back to Earth.
As the world watched the historic all-female Blue Origin flight return to Earth, perhaps no one was more excited than Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of the company — whose fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, was one of the six astronauts on board.
Bezos' prestige, however, did not save him from one especially cringe-worthy moment upon the capsule's landing in West Texas on Monday, April 14. In fact, it may have been the excitement that got the best of him when running around the outskirts of the vessel.
In video footage that has since gone viral, the controversial Amazon founder, 61, peered into one of the capsule's large windows before attempting to make his way around the outer edge of the craft. It was in that moment — when he broke out into a small jog — that he tripped on unstable ground, falling to his knees before the rest of his body landed on the desert ground, including his face.
Bezos' embarrassing moment aside, the historic flight was one that nearly rendered all six passengers — Sánchez, Katy Perry, Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, research scientist Amanda Nguyenand film producer Kerianne Flynn— close to speechless upon their return, each expressing their awe for both outer space and Earth.
Perry, for her part, took one moment in the flight's 10-minute journey to reveal the setlist for her upcoming Lifetimes tour — while floating in zero gravity. The 40-year-old "Roar" singer — who also brought a daisy with her to symbolize her 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, whom she shares with Orlando Bloom— also chose to sing "What a Wonderful World" while in space.
In addition to Bezos, the rest of the crew's family and friends were there to celebrate, including Sánchez's children — whom she immediately requested to see after touching down — as well as Bloom, their daughter Daisy, King's best friend Oprah, and even Kris Jennerand Khloé Kardashian.
Both Perry and King, grateful for their safe return, kissed the ground as they stepped out of the capsule on Monday.
