The Most Anticipated Movies of 2025

The last year introduced us to some incredible films (well, except Emilia Pérez , depending on who you ask). We devoted countless hours to watching Wicked repeatedly and Adrien Brody's Oscar-winning performance in The Brutalist (and record-breaking long acceptance speech ), and we're eager to see what other masterpieces will hit theaters next. 

According to a study conducted by sports betting site GamingToday.com , many films are premiering this year that fans are looking forward to seeing, some more than others. They analyzed a list of over 240 movies, followed by "2025," to gather the most anticipated films based on the number of worldwide average monthly Google searches.

They ranked the films that populated within the last 12 months to determine which fans mostly have their eyes on, and the top movie surpassed the others by thousands . Read on to see which films are the most anticipated of 2025 and where they fall on the chart. 

Superman

It could be the stellar reputation that the DC Universe has upheld with its outstanding films that garnered Superman as the top movie fans are excited to see. Or it could be because it has been four years since we were mesmerized by Henry Cavill playing the titular superhero (2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League ). Either way, fans can't wait for the franchise's 12th film, Superman 's July release, with David Corensweet now portraying Clark Kent. 

Superman had the highest monthly Google searches of any other 2025 film premiere with 27,273, marking the sixth live-action adaptation of the superhero to hit the big screen. And Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly relies heavily on Superman to pull out large numbers at the box office, setting a precedent for future DC films, as per Screen Rant . 

The franchise has had an impressive run since its first movie, Superman , premiered in 1978, and Corensweet has big shoes to fill following Christopher Reeve and Cavill. The movie also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Milly Alcock, and Isabela Merced. 

Dog Man

Second on the list is the animated action-comedy Dog Man , which premiered in January 2025. Although the movie has already had some time in theaters, raking in over $154 million at the box office , it got considerable search volume in the 12 months preceding its debut (21,722 monthly searches). This might partly be due to its star-studded cast, including Pete Davidson, Isla Fisher, Ricky Gervais, and Lil Rel Howery. 

However, its storyline is also adorable for its younger viewers, as it's about a police officer and his dog being fused together after undergoing lifesaving surgery and protecting the city as their new identity, Dog Man. The film is a spin-off of the beloved Captain Underpants book series and film created by Dave Pilkey. 

The concept worked as it was the biggest movie premiere of 2025 (before Captain America: Brave New World secured the title in February). According to the Associated Press , only one other animated film had a better January release, and that was 2016's Kung Fu Panda . 

Snow White

There has been buzz about the new Snow White adaptation ever since it was announced in October 2016, remaking the 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs . However, the chatter has been heavily critical because of the film's cast (Latina actress Rachel Zegler portraying Snow White, who in the original fairytale is described as having "skin as white as snow," and Peter Dinklage, who has dwarfism, slamming Disney for reimagining the film with its dwarf characters (via US Magazine ). 

In the wake of the backlash, Variety reported in March 2025 that Disney's premiere of the film, taking place that month, won't be the usual large-scale event. Instead, the media will be minimal, with only photographers and a house crew, without the interviews and press generally on the red carpet.  

Still, fans are enthusiastic to see if the final product will be worth the hype. Snow White garnered 7,383 average monthly searches, becoming the fourth most anticipated film of the year. 

How to Train Your Dragon

A live-action adaptation of the 2010 film animation How to Train Your Dragon is debuting in June 2025, and many people already have their theater seats picked out. It rounds out the year's Top 5 most anticipated films with 6,874 average monthly searches despite some complaints online that the remake would ruin the greatness of the original movie. 

In a February 2025 interview with Gizmodo , the film's writer-director Dean DeBlois confirmed fans' biggest fears, that much of the movie would be different than the first. However, he assured many scenes would be the same, including the memorable moment when Hiccup and Toothless fly together for the first time. 

While nothing will ever beat the animated versions with Jay Baruchel as the lead in the film series, including How to Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019), we're excited to see how it's pulled off with the characters live on screen. Plus, we'll get to watch Gerard Butler reprise his role as Stoick the Vast, not just hear his voice. 

Michael

It's been a long time since we've seen the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, on our screens (the last being in the 2019 documentary Michael Jackson: Chase the Truth ). So, it's no wonder many people are interested in watching the new biographical musical Michael , releasing in October 2025. As per GamingToday.com , the production, which recounts the late singer's life, elicited 3,844 monthly Google searches. 

People might also be attracted to the movie because of the cast's connection to the "Billy Jean" singer, as his nephew Jaafar Jackson portrays him in his film debut. Kat Graham, Laura Harrier, Teresa Palmer, Colman Domingo, Miles Teller , and Nia Long also star in the film. 

However, the movie's creation hasn't gone on without a hitch as it was originally scheduled for release in April but got pushed due to some legal tape that came to light after production was complete. As per CNN , Puck reported earlier this year that a clause in the settlement of a case against Michael for allegations of sexual abuse involving a minor prohibited dramatization of the victim's family, which was incorporated in the film. 

As a result, the film had to be reworked, and the premiere was postponed, adding to fans' anticipation for the movie. 

Presence

The horror film Presence dropped in January 2025, but fans had long been awaiting its release, based on its 3,633 monthly Google searches. The movie tells the frightening story of a family who is convinced they're not alone in their new suburban home. For those unable (or too afraid) to see it in theaters, the psychological thriller, directed by Steven Soderbergh, is now available to buy or rent from your TV. 

Among the cast are Lucy Liu, Julia Fox, Callina Liang, Chris Sullivan, and Eddy Maday. It's also been noted as a great film for horror fans awaiting Scream 7 's release next year. 

Avatar: Fire and Ash

The third Avatar film of the series, Fire and Ash , premieres in December 2025, and the date couldn't come soon enough for the 3,601 monthly Google searches it received over the last year. Director James Cameron takes his time in rolling out these sci-fi movies, with the first debuting in 2009 and the second ( The Way of Water ) over a decade later. Fans have been patiently waiting for the third installment, especially with two more movies already scheduled for 2029 and 2031 releases.

Cameron made fans even more eager for Fire and Ash 's release after he revealed in a March 2025 interview with Empire that his wife "bawled for four hours" after watching the film. He also revealed that the movie will be the longest, following the second film's over 3-hour runtime. Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, and Michelle Yeoh comprise the cast. 

Sinners

Sinners is another scary movie that fans have marked on their calendars for its April 2025 release. The film brought in 3,226 monthly Google searches, showing that plenty of people are expected to flock to the theaters to see it. It's about troubled twin brothers who return to their hometowns after some time away and discover a greater evil is waiting for them, as per IMDB 's description. 

Movieweb reported that according to Puck , Sinners has gained more interest than the March 2025 comedic film Mickey 17 , which showed considerable popularity in early box office tracking data by The Quorum. It's also under the Warner Bros. umbrella, alongside Superman , and it's hopeful to come out on top. 

Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Li Jun Li, Omar Benson Miller, Jayme Lawson, and Wunmi Mosaku. 

Love Hurts

Finishing off the Top 10 most anticipated movies of 2025 is the action/adventure film Love Hurts , which dropped in February. Sadly, the film didn't receive the best ratings, only scoring an 18 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, but many people were looking forward to seeing it, as per its 2,877 monthly Google searches. 

The movie is about a former hitman turned realtor thrust back into his old life of crime after his ex-partner-in-crime returns with a message. Despite the lackluster reviews, the movie stars many familiar faces, including Ke Huy Quan, Ariana DeBose, Marshawn Lynch (yes, NFL star Marshawn Lynch ), and Sean Astin. 

Other films further down on the list that scored a significant number of Google searches are Wicked: For Good (November), Star Trek: Section 31 (January), Halloween Aftermath (October), and Lilo & Stitch (May). 

A spokesperson for  GamingToday.com commented on their findings in a press release, further showcasing the types of films the public is yearning to see. 

"It's interesting to see that at least half of the movies in this list are either remakes or sequels, highlighting a pattern in Hollywood's tendency to revive established franchises, probably to secure success," the statement began.

"This also underlines how the public seems to enjoy this, preferring characters and scenes they already know and love."
