It looks like Cate Blanchett is ready to roll the credits on her acting career.

After 35 years of appearing on stages and screens, the Australian actress recently told Radio Times Magazine that she's "serious about giving up acting" and that there are "a lot of things I want to do with my life."

"My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it," Blanchett elaborated.

Her remarks may comes as a surprise, seeing that Blanchett just performed as a leading actress in a London production of the Anton Chekhov play "The Seagull." Her first major radio drama,"The Fever," also arrives later this month.

But Blanchett, now 55, has never been limited to any one art form. Her résumé includes work in over 70 films and 20 theater productions, as well as two Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four BAFTAs, among additional honors. (She also has been nominated for two Emmy Awards and a Tony Award.)

Some of her most notable films include the blockbuster series "The Lord of the Rings," as well as the two movies that made her an Academy Award-winning actress: "The Aviator" and "Blue Jasmine."

In her interview with Radio Times Magazine, Blanchett didn't share any specific post-acting plans, although she did comment on the circumstances of her vast career.

"Like a lot of people, I like being alive," she said. "I throw myself into life, often in unwanted places. Maybe that's why my career, if you call it a career, has been so strangely eclectic."

Until she reveals more, fans can see Blanchett in the forthcoming film "Father, Mother, Sister, Brother," which also features Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik.
