The Ravenna Rocks concert will bring plenty of music to the stage Aug. 9, including the final round of Voice of Ravenna.

Fallon Schwab-Davis, one of the board members organizing this year's concert, said the stage will be packed with entertainers, who will take the stage between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. Aug. 9. This year, the concert is being organized by a board of local volunteers, since the Ravenna Area Chamber of Commerce is taking a step back from running the event.

West Main Street, between Sycamore and Chestnut streets, will be closed all day.

Focus Group, a Twinsburg-based band that plays country and classic rock, also will be among the early performers.

Solo Six String , an acoustic indie artist, and 1052 The Band also will perform.

New this year is the Voice of Ravenna, which will bring nine regional artists to the stage for the final round of competition between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Truss, the headliner, will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. to close out the evening.

Schwab-Davis said the competition arose from a discussion about bringing more people to see the show. The group, she said, decided the competition would "make people part of the show."

The competition was patterned after The Voice and American Idol, she said.

She and AJ Wade, whose parents own West Main Winery, Brewery and Cider House , have been organizing the competition, which involved three rounds of competitors from all over the region. Eventually, judges narrowed the contestants to nine finalists.

Each finalist, she said, will perform one song. After a break that will include a hot dog eating contest, the finalists each will perform a second song.

Then each person in attendance will be able to vote on their favorite using a QR Code. Truss will announce the winner when the band takes the stage and award a trophy.

Schwab-Davis said the finalists represent a variety of genres, with several "triple threats" among them.

"They have so much range," she said. "I'm so excited to see where all the contestants are going. It's going to be quite a show."

More than 30 vendors will be on hand to show their wares, along with about half a dozen food trucks, in addition to local restaurants. Vendor spots still are available, and those interested are asked to contact the winery .

Each band will spend time at a tent to meet people and offer merchandise after their performance.

Other events will include a cornhole tournament and a "Jeep Invasion" with hundreds of Jeeps expected at the cruise-in.
