Red Clay Dance Company brings healing ritual to JMKAC Feb. 19

SHEBOYGAN – The John Michael Kohler Arts Center will host a performance by the Chicago-based Red Clay Dance Company in February.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 19 at the arts center, 608 New York Ave., Sheboygan, according to a community announcement.

The performance will feature "Rest.Rise.Move.Nourish.Heal," a work choreographed by the company's founding artistic director and CEO, Vershawn Sanders-Ward. The piece is described as a "site-responsive dance ritual and embodied journey of reclamation, healing and spiritual return," drawing from Black, African and Indigenous traditions, and addressing themes of food apartheid and racial inequity.

Performance includes post-show discussion

The 65-minute performance will be followed by a discussion, providing an opportunity for the audience to engage with the artists and themes of the work.

Tickets are $20 for arts center members and $25 for the public. They can be purchased at jmkac.org .

The presentation of "Rest.Rise.Move.Nourish.Heal" is supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts' National Dance Project, with funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation, according to the announcement.
